TCL’s new tablet with eye protecting screen tech, new phones plus wearable display at CES 2021

By

With new 5G smartphones using NXTVISION 2.0 screen tech, a new tablet using NXTPAPER screens delivering “one of the most advanced eye protection displays on the market”, multi-screen collaboration and more, TCL should have a very successful 2021.

TCL has unveiled a range of new smartphones, tablets and connected devices which it says “delivers on its leadership in global display innovations while ensuring it also delivers on its promise of design, performance and affordability”.

Offering upgrades over last year’s TCL 10 Series of smartphones, TCL’s new 20 Series offers “enhanced NXTVISION 2.0 display technology with improved imaging, solid performance and battery life. Leveraging the company’s expertise in display manufacturing,

“TCL new NXTPAPER tablet is the first commercially available tablet to use TCL’s innovative new NXTPAPER display technology, while TCL’s Wearable Display glasses provide sharp and vivid visuals designed to add convenience to the lives of consumers, whether they’re at home or on the go”.

Aaron Zhang, CEO of TCL Communication said: “After the successful launch of the TCL Mobile brand, 2021 will be a very important year for TCL’s business as we build on the momentum established last year and continue to grow as one of the world’s largest end-to-end global consumer electronics brands.

“This year, our TCL-branded mobile devices are highlighting an increasing focus on strengthening our TCL ecosystem by making 5G connectivity more affordable and accessible to people around the world without compromising the premium features and design associated with TCL”, added Zhang.

TCL 20 Series smartphone range - the 20 5G and 20 SE

TCL tell us its 20 5G and 20 SE deliver “affordable 5G connectivity while featuring the latest TCL-made displays and the next generation of NXTVISION, TCL’s proprietary advanced display optimisation and camera technology.

“NXTVISION 2.0 provides users with improvements to the video and image display experience that debuted last year with the TCL 10 Series, including improved SDR to HDR conversion, enhanced colour calibration and more eye safety features.

“Select devices in the 20 Series will also include a next-generation dedicated display engine combined with AI software to enable adaptive display features, fewer false touches, and TCL’s new AI visual enhancement technology. The AI visual enhancement technology is an algorithm that intelligently detects your environment’s lighting and distinguishes between different visuals to automatically enhance brightness, colour accuracy, clarity and contrast”.

Here’s what TCL has to say about the different models.

TCL 20 5G: Powerful 5G Performance and Stunning Visuals

The TCL 20 5G, which features a large 6.67-inch FHD+ Dotch display, is designed for those seeking powerful 5G performance along with an enhanced display and video streaming experience.

Equipped with NXTVISION technology, the TCL 20 5G supports HDR10 video playback for streaming TV series, documentaries and films on Netflix, providing users with the ability to watch videos as their creators intended.

The TCL 20 5G also features an SDR-to-HDR real-time conversion tool for an outstanding visual experience, as well as an exclusive piece-by-piece display calibration mode that further enhances the display’s colour accuracy.

The phone’s 5G capabilities are powered by an 8nm octa-core Snapdragon 690 5G chipset. These technologies are designed to deliver a seamless user experience no matter what apps, games, or services are being used. The TCL 20 5G’s power management is optimised by Smart 5G technology, which automatically switches between 4G and 5G bands based on data usage to help further stretch the built-in 4500mAh battery.

For those looking to capture stunning photos and videos, the TCL 20 5G also features an AI-powered triple camera setup with technologies that enhance auto-focus and video image stabilisation, along with low-light, high-resolution shots. The 48 megapixel main rear camera takes detailed images and utilises PDAF auto-focus for taking crisp and reliable pictures every time.

The TCL 20 5G comes in both Mist Gray and Placid Blue, Australian prices are yet to be disclosed, but will be available end Q1 2021.

TCL 20 SE: Maximised Media Performance with NXTVISION

The affordable new TCL 20 SE has all of the features associated with an advanced smartphone, along with a superior video entertainment system for those looking to take their A/V experiences on-the-go.

Stunning video performance is delivered via a 6.82-inch, V notch display with 90 percent screen-to-body ratio for a maximised viewing experience, along with a 20.5:9 screen ratio which provides broad, cinematic-like viewing performance in a slim form factor.

To take further advantage of the large display, the TCL 20 SE also features a Smart Floating Window, which lets users browse the web or reply to messages while watching videos; the feature is triggered by swiping to the right or left corner, and can be adjusted in size or move to anywhere on the display.

Like the TCL 20 5G, the TCL 20 SE also provides outstanding video playback through SDR-to-HDR technology. And thanks to NXTVISION technology, colour, contrast and clarity are all enhanced while videos are being enjoyed in real time.

The smartphone’s dual speaker design also improves the audio experience—no speakers are blocked when the device is being held in a user’s hand—and it is also compatible with Hi-Res Audio certification. To power all of these features, the TCL 20 SE has a Qualcomm octa-core chipset and a 5,000mAh battery. It also comes with On-The-Go reverse charging capability, making it possible to top up the battery of a friend’s device or a smaller gadget.

And, while maximised video entertainment and power are the foundations of the TCL 20 SE, the device’s quad rear camera comes with AI-powered colour portrait and sky enhancement features, which are designed to automatically detect the intended subjects and adjust the background for more beautiful shots. Additionally, the new AI Object Eraser is capable of clearing out people or objects that are in the background.

The TCL 20 SE comes in Nuit Black and Aurora Green, again, Australian prices are yet to be disclosed, but will be available end Q1 2021.

TCL Multi-Screen Collaboration

We’re told that as another benefit of TCL’s deep vertically integrated ecosystem, the company will introduce its upcoming multi-screen collaboration efforts between select TCL 20 Series smartphones, tablets, televisions and PCs at CES 2021.

Through simple wireless connections like Bluetooth, WiFi or NFC, TCL will make it possible to seamlessly transfer files and multimedia from one device to another; fuse your phone window to your PC for quick and easy multi-tasking; and cast your smartphone screen to larger displays like tablets and televisions. More details to come later this year.

TCL NXTPAPER Tablet Delivers Performance, Along with Eye Safety

Offering what TCL says is “one of the most advanced eye protection displays on the market”, TCL’s new NXTPAPER tablet is an elegant mobile companion featuring an 8-inch FHD NXTPAPER screen that offers a paper-like visual experience with no flicker or harmful blue light.

TCL’s proprietary NXTPAPER technology achieves stunning display performance with a highly reflective IPS screen that utilises innovative TCL technology to reuse natural light, resulting in vivid, full-colour reproduction with no blue light or flicker.

TCL NXTPAPER display technology provides 25% higher contrast than most e-ink tablets and is also more than 65% more power efficient than standard LCD screens, providing better battery life and efficiency. It also provides for smoother video playback, ensuring optimised entertainment for learning, work and leisure activities.

Designed specifically for larger format devices, NXTPAPER provides a paper-like visual experience in full high-definition resolution, and with considerably less eye strain and fatigue compared to most tablets.

The TCL NXTPAPER is powered by an octa-core processor, and features a strong 5500mAh battery for over a full day of use, along with a 5-megapixel front facing camera and an 8-megapixel rear facing camera for remote classroom learning, video teleconferences and more.

The TCL NXTPAPER comes with a Kids Learning option, providing a child-friendly user interface and parental controls.

It also works with Google Assistant, allowing users to seamlessly manage tasks, get answers to questions, and play music using voice commands. And to make sure users can both effectively connect and contribute on video calls or during virtual classes, the tablet offers both Wi-Fi and 4G connectivity. It has also received TUV Rheinland safety certification to ensure your child’s eyes are protected from harmful light.

Stefan Streit, General Manager of Global Marketing for TCL Communication said: “NXTPAPER is a prime example of TCL Mobile’s Display Greatness philosophy and showcases how a vertically integrated ecosystem can help produce innovative new products quickly and affordably.

“This new type of display will directly benefit remote workers and students alike, bringing new features that help encourage productivity, make life easier, and keep our eyes safe.”

The TCL NXTPAPER tablet will be available in Q2 2021.

TCL Wearable Display: A Portable Cinematic Experience You Can Wear

The TCL Wearable Display is a light and stylish pair of glasses that come with dual 1080p Full HD micro OLED displays built in. From virtually anywhere, users can enjoy a 140-degree inch view from four meters away, and with a density of 49 pixels-per-degree (PPD), visuals are sharp and incredibly vivid.

The Wearable Display is capable of connecting to hundreds of smartphones, tablets, laptops and 2-in-1 PCs from most manufacturers whose devices have a display port over USB-C that can support 1080p resolution. Once connected, the device enables you to watch movies, play games and more from at home, on the road, or anywhere else, enjoying a truly immersive experience.

The aforementioned Stefan Streit added “It is a thrill to introduce a truly new and unique type of wearable product that leverages years of research and TCL’s expertise in display manufacturing, as well as new premium devices that enhance our lives as well as the lives of our pets,” said . “We will continue to build and grow our already robust ecosystem by expanding further into the wearable and audio product categories.”

The TCL Wearable Display will be available in the second half of 2021, pending partners TCL enters each market with.
