STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- The average American keeps their new car for seven years, and that number continues to rise.

However, there are some cars that owners are more likely to keep longer. But which cars are New York drivers most likely to keep for 15 or more years?

To find out, iSeeCars analyzed over 350,000 cars from the 1981-2004 model years sold in 2019 to determine which models stand this test of time.

In New York, the vehicle that is most likely to be kept by drivers for 15 or more years is the Toyota Tacoma.

In fact, Toyota was the manufacturer with the most spots on this list, followed by Honda with four, according to the report.

“Japanese vehicles, especially Toyota and Honda, are known for their reliability and durability,” said iSeeCars CEO Phong Ly. “Owners are more likely to hold onto cars that are still dependable and don’t require a great deal of expensive maintenance.”

The study revealed the top five cars New York drivers keep for 15 years or more were all Toyotas:

1. Toyota Tacoma, 23.9% of car owners

2. Toyota Highlander, 22.6% of car owners

3. Toyota Tundra, 20.2% of car owners

4. Toyota Sequoia, 20.0% of car owners

5. Toyota RAV4, 19.2% of car owners
