Seattle middle school investigating homework assignment involving sexually explicit poem about ‘white Hollywood’

A Seattle middle school is investigating a teacher who parents say gave students a homework assignment that centered on a sexually explicit poem that referenced “white Hollywood.”

The Issaquah School District is “actively” investigating the situation after it learned about the “inappropriate content” within the assignment Tuesday night, Executive Director Lesha Engels told the Washington Examiner on Wednesday.

News of the assignment was reported by the Post Millennial, which said a group of parents also contacted the school district about the poem.

“The assignment that included a YouTube poem with inappropriate language and material has been removed from the teachers learning management system content,” Engels added. “Parents and/or guardians of students enrolled in the impacted course have been contacted.“

She also told the Washington Examiner that the seventh grade language arts teacher has been placed on leave.

The students were told to read and analyze the poem White Hollywood by Joe Limer.

One student told his or her parents that he or she failed to complete the assignment because the child was too embarrassed to do it, and the student’s parents posted the assignment on social media.

“Here goes. I’m shaking. I just sent an email to my 7th grader’s principle. What would your next step be? Warning this is graphic,” one parent wrote on Facebook.

The poem concludes:

I mean, how insecure are you, White Hollywood,
when diversity means placing Asian males in asexual supporting roles,
never getting the girl. I mean, I get it. You don’t need Viagra.
You can suck your own d— because you got a colonized erection
every single time you cast Asian women
as love interest sex slaves.
