FRANKFORT, Ky. (LEX 18) — During his Wednesday press conference, Gov. Andy Beshear announced that Kentucky has officially crossed the 1,000 mark for coronavirus-related deaths.

Gov. Beshear announced that sixteen more Kentuckians have suffered coronavirus-related deaths, bringing Kentucky's coronavirus-related death total to 1,013.

"Over the last six months, we've had over 1,000 families going through something that is far too hard, and not able to do it in that normal way, full funerals and families getting together to grieve," Gov. Beshear said. "To honor these individuals and their grieving families, we are going to have another wreath-hanging ceremony by the Kentucky State Police Honor Guard tomorrow morning at 10 a.m. here in the Rotunda."

Gov. Beshear noted that he is ordering all flags on state buildings to half-staff and to fly at half-staff for the next week to recognize the more than 1,000 Kentuckians who have suffered coronavirus-related deaths.

The governor also announced that that 667 more Kentuckians have tested positive for COVID-19, bringing Kentucky's COVID-19 case total to 53,977.
