Cold case no more: Pennsylvania man charged in wife’s 1983 homicide

More than 34 years after his wife’s lifeless body was found in a wooded area along a state highway in Perry County a 62-year-old man has been charged with homicide.

Carl E. Rodgers, of Shermans Dale, was arrested Monday morning and sent to Perry County Prison without bail, according to court records online.

He is accused of killing his wife, Debra Rodgers, on April 22, 1983, according to published reports. Her body was found the next day in Northeast Madison Township, about a 30 minute drive from their home in Shermans Dale, state police said. An autopsy showed she died as a result of traumatic head injuries.

The Attorney General’s office plans to release further details at a 11 a.m. press conference at the state police barracks in Newport, Perry County. Authorities a statewide grand jury recommended the homicide charge after hearing testimony and viewing evidence collected by state police and agents from the attorney general’s office.
