Burglars Hit Yorkville Target, Escape Police On Route 47: Police

YORKVILLE, IL — Yorkville police on Wednesday morning dispelled rumors of "looting" but confirmed a burglary crew hit the Target store in the 1600 block of Beecher Road, breaking the glass doors with a tire jack and failing to steal a TV before fleeing. Police said there were employees working in the store when the thieves struck just after 5 a.m., but no one was hurt.

Police said investigators were in the area processing evidence and interviewing witnesses after the 5:16 a.m. burglary but there was no threat to the public.

"We have been advised that there is a rumor that the Yorkville Target store has been looted," police said on Facebook. "This is not true. Our agency is investigating a burglary that occurred at 5:16am. There were employees working at that time, but fortunately there were no injuries sustained. Police are on scene investigating, there is no danger to the public, however you can expect an active police presence."

Police said five burglars forced their way through the front doors after one of them threw a tire jack through the glass. All five thieves were wearing masks and gloves.

The bandits attempted but failed to steal a television, and police said they were working to determine what items may have been stolen.

Police said the five burglars fled the store a white Dodge Durango. Officers were able to track down the vehicle and tried to make a traffic stop, but the driver did not stop, and the Durango was last seen heading south on Route 47.

Police have not said whether the Yorkville burglary is connected to an incident at the Best Buy store on Route 59 in Aurora early Wednesday.
