Oregon wildfire closures for Wednesday: School districts, government offices close; BLM extends closures to Sept. 30

Some large and medium-sized Oregon school districts — including Reynolds, Newberg, Lincoln County and Canby — will be closed and not offering distance learning on Wednesday.

Here is our comprehensive list of closures:

SCHOOLS

Amity Sch. Dist.: Online classes will be held Wednesday. No in-person instruction in the buildings and no meal delivery.

Canby Sch. Dist.: Closed Wednesday. No meal service. Classes begin Thursday, Sept. 17.

Cascade Sch. Dist.: Closed due to air quality. School rescheduled to start on Monday. Closed this week.

Damascus Christian: Closed due to air quality. Camp will start on Monday, Sept. 21.

Estacada Sch. Dist.: School and service closures are extended through September 18th.

German International School : Closed due to air quality. Elementary online programming and parent nights are on as scheduled.

Hilltop Early Learning Academy: Closed Wednesday.

Lincoln Co. Sch. Dist.: Closed to all students through Friday due to local fires. Student instruction to resume Monday.

Longview Sch. Dist.: Remote learning will continue as scheduled, but school facilities will be closed on Wednesday due to ongoing air quality issues. Meal services will continue to provide grab and go meals for any child age birth to 18. For more information visit longviewschools.com.

Lyle Sch. Dist.: No in person instruction Thursday. Remote/online learning only. Mess available from 10 a.m.-12 p.m.

Molalla River Sch. Dist.: Closed. All school and service closures extended through Friday.

Montessori School of Beaverton: In-person 3/4 year-old program closed Wednesday. MSB Online will continue uninterrupted.

Newberg Sch. Dist.: Closed due to air quality. First full day of school Monday, Sept. 21.

North Marion Sch. Dist.: All campuses closed. Due to continued hazardous air quality, North Marion School District has extended the suspension of all school-related activities on campus including device distribution, food service deliveries until Thursday.

NW Regional ESD: Washington Co.: Due to ongoing air quality concerns, all of our physical locations are closed through Friday, Sept. 18. Our schools and programs will continue to provide virtual services and comprehensive distance learning to students and families as regularly scheduled.

Parkrose Sch. Dist.: Due to hazardous air conditions all meal services, the middle school food pantry & Champions programming will be closed, Thursday, Sept. 17th. Comprehensive Distance Learning will continue as planned.

Portland Christian: Closed due to air quality. On-campus activities, including childcare, canceled Wednesday due to poor air quality. Digital learning will continue.

Reynolds Sch. Dist.: Reynolds School District closed through Thursday, Sept. 17. Distance Learning start delayed to Wednesday, Sept. 23. Meal Distribution this week will occur only on Wednesday, Sept. 16, from 11:30am to 1:30pm at Fairview Elementary, Troutdale Elementary, and Wilkes Elementary with multiple meals served per student. Regular daily meal distribution will resume again on Monday, Sept. 21, conditions permitting.

Spanish With Sarah: Closed due to air quality.

St. Joseph Catholic School - Vancouver: Preschool is canceled due to continued unhealthy air quality. Preschool portraits will be rescheduled. K-8 Remote Learning will continue as scheduled.

Stevenson-Carson Sch. Dist.: All district offices closed due to poor air quality. Remote learning will continue as scheduled.

Trinity Early Learning Center (NE Portland): Closed due to air quality.

Vancouver Sch. Dist.: All school facilities will be closed to the public on Wednesday. In-person support and grab-and-go meal service will be canceled. Contact a Family-Community Resource coordinator for help with food or other basic needs. Remote instruction will continue for students. Technical support will be available at 360-313-5400 or student.support@vansd.org. It is anticipated the district will return to regular operation with in-person support and grab-and-go meals on Thursday.

Washougal Sch. Dist.: Closed due to air quality. All in-person childcare, meals, and in-person services at school facilities are canceled. Remote Learning continues as scheduled for students and staff.

Western Oregon University: Campus is closed until 5 p.m. on Wednesday due to air quality.

West Hills Montessori: Closed. Lake Oswego and SW Portland campuses closed due to on-going hazardous air quality. Comprehensive Distance Learning will continue as scheduled.

PARKS AND RECREATION

Oregon State Parks: Many parks are closed to visitors until further notice due to wildfire risk or wind damage. (Complete list of closures.)

Bureau of Land Management Northwest Oregon District has temporarily closed all recreation sites and certain roads through Sept. 30.

As a result of extreme fire activity, the Bureau of Land Management Northwest Oregon District has temporarily closed all recreation sites and certain roads through September 30.

All BLM developed campgrounds in northwestern Oregon are closed to the public, and dispersed camping is prohibited. Members of the public may not enter closed recreation areas. This temporary closure covers the northwestern part of the state, west of the Cascade Range and north from Cottage Grove to the Columbia River. USDA Forest Service: For a complete list of closures, go to fs.usda.gov. Full closure orders are in effect on the Mt. Hood, Siuslaw, and Willamette National Forests. Large area closure orders are in place on the Deschutes, Fremont-Winema, Gifford Pinchot, Rogue River-Siskiyou, and Umpqua National Forests, as well as the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area.

The Siuslaw National Forest is temporarily closing to public access. This closure covers all national forest, coastal, and sand areas and includes the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area, Sand Lake, developed campgrounds, dispersed camping, day use areas, wilderness areas, and all forest roads and trails.

Oregon Department of Forestry: All lands are closed to public use at least through Wednesday. Fire danger remains extreme, air quality is bad to hazardous, and last week’s wind storms caused downed trees on roads & other safety problems that need to be cleared. This covers the Tillamook, Clatsop, Gilchrist, Sun Pass & Santiam state forests as well as other smaller parcels managed by ODF in Lane, Douglas, Coos, Jackson, Josephine, Klamath, Polk, Lincoln, & Benton counties.

The Oregon State Marine Board is urging boaters to stay off the water near areas where there are active fires. The agency asks boaters to do their part by staying out of harm’s way and wait to use waterways until outdoor conditions improve.

Sheriff’s office marine deputies are assisting with public safety and evacuation orders and need the assistance of boaters to stay well clear of active fires and bodies of water used for fire suppression efforts. According to a recent release, boaters can be cited for unsafe operation for interfering with these efforts.

PacifiCorp has closed all access to its properties in Southwest Washington Lewis River basin until further notice. The closure will remain in effect until the fire hazard conditions improve. (Complete list of recreation site closures and limited or reduced services in Oregon and Washington.)

Tualatin Hills Park and Recreation: Closed Thursday THPRD has closed all public buildings, parks, trails, and natural areas. The closure has been extended until Friday, September 18, at 7 a.m.

Willamalane Park and Recreation District: Closed due to hazardous air conditions. All facilities, parks, and trails closed until further notice. The area can not provide smoke respite shelters or any other programs at this time.

BUSINESSES AND SERVICES

City of Hillsboro: Outdoor services such as HPL To Go at Brookwood and Shute Park libraries will remain closed on Wednesday. Buildings and facilities will reopen to the public under COVID-19 operational precautions on Wednesday.

Multnomah County: Most county buildings are closed through Thursday, Sept. 17 due to wildfire smoke, with the exception of some health clinics and the Courts. Essential employees will report as usual and those teleworking will continue from home.

The Oregon Department of Revenue will close all field offices and the Revenue Building in Salem starting Wednesday and lasting until Sept. 21. Taxpayers in need of assistance can reach the department by telephone at 503-378-4988 or toll free at 800-356-4222, or through email at questions.dor@oregon.gov. Also, taxpayers can use online resources at www.oregon.gov/dor.

Oregon Zoo: Closed. Purchased tickets will be automatically refunded on the card used for purchase.

Virginia Garcia Memorial Health Center: All locations, including medical, dental and school-based clinics open for telehealth visits only. Pharmacies are open for pickup only.

Washington County: All Washington County facilities will remain closed to the public throughout Wednesday, September 16, due to continued poor air quality. Public safety, many Support Services functions and emergency response operations will continue. For information about services which may be available online, please visit the County website at www.co.washington.or.us and use the index provided to look up specific departments and services.

Washington Co. Circuit Court: Limited reopening Wednesday, September 16. Criminal in-custody arraignments at the Law Enforcement Center and juvenile in-custody preliminary hearings in the Juvenile Services Building will be the ONLY on-the-record courtroom proceedings. All other scheduled court proceedings are canceled and will be rescheduled. Ongoing jury trials will be delayed another day. No public access to the Courthouse and Justice Services Building.
