AAA: July most expensive month for gas in Florida since 2014

With gas prices on average hanging around $2.97 a gallon, July was the most expensive month at the pump for Floridians since fall 2014.

With gas prices hanging around $2.97 a gallon on average, July was the most expensive month at the pump for Floridians since fall 2014.

Prices have declined since last month’s high of more than $3 a gallon, according to the AAA-Auto Club South in its weekly gasoline prices briefing, dropping 4 cents. 

In June, gas prices jumped by double digits and have been slow to come back down.   

“July was the most expensive month at the pump since October 2014," AAA spokesman Mark Jenkins said. "Florida gas prices remain elevated due to tightening global supplies, as demand recovers from the pandemic.

"Florida gas prices averaged $2.99 per gallon, in July 2021," he added. 

As people begin to travel more, compared to this time last year when many remained at home, prices have increased. This time last year, price averages were 81 cents less.

Regional Prices

  • Most expensive metro markets – Panama City ($3.12), West Palm Beach-Boca Raton ($3.12), Tallahassee ($3.08). 
  • Least expensive metro markets – Punta Gorda ($2.88), Orlando ($2.91),Jacksonville ($2.91), Tampa Bay ($2.92).
