Buckhorn defense comes up big in 12-7 victory over Mae Jemison

On fourth-and-two from their 44, the visiting Jaguars decided to go for it. But with such defenders as Elijah Turman and Caden Garver around, Mae Jemison was stopped cold.

Buckhorn then went 56 yards in seven plays, taking the lead when Quinton Turner went in from the 1 with 1:13 left in the third.

Buckhorn left with a 12-7 victory.

Coachspeak: “Hat’s off to Mae Jemison. They played a heck of a game. Our defense had a great performance, played really hard. On offense we made a lot of mistakes. We did establish drives, got down the field and were able to score. I think our offensive line had their best game.” - Keith Henderson, Buckhorn.

“We didn’t execute. We had opportunities. We had the drive. Penalties and other miscues put us in the hole. A fourth-and-one play was key. We had the right play, but for some reason we didn’t get it done.” - Harold Wells, Mae Jemison.

They said it: “It was coming out of halftime, being excited and ready to play. Our offense did the job.” - Turner.

Up next: Buckhorn plays at Milton Frank Stadium on Thursday against Columbia. Jemison has next week off.
