Grand Canyon Skywalk celebrates after welcoming 10 millionth visitor

PHOENIX – The Grand Canyon Skywalk, the U-shaped glass bridge that extends over Arizona’s breathtaking natural wonder, is celebrating this month after welcoming its 10 millionth visitor.
The attraction, which opened in March 2007 after nearly three years of construction, announced that it reached the eight-digit milestone Thursday.
To mark the accomplishment, Grand Canyon West is offering a 10% discount on general admission for the Skywalk and its zip line and Hualapai River tours until the end of January. Visitors must purchase tickets online and use the code MILLION to get the reduced price.
Denise Hayes and Ryan Flanigan, a mother and daughter from St. Louis, were treated to a VIP experience Thursday, including a helicopter tour and pontoon boat ride, when their arrival pushed the Grand Canyon Skywalk over the 10 million mark.

“The 10 million guests who have walked on Skywalk have helped us created hundreds of jobs and an entire economy,” Colin McBeath, CEO of Grand Canyon Resort Corporation, which operates Grand Canyon West, said in a press release.
“It’s a tourism experience that respects Hualapai culture and the spiritual and natural gifts of the Canyon while giving tourists from all over the globe an up-close look at one of the most awe-inspiring views known to man.”
Visitors to Grand Canyon West, which is operated by the Hualapai Tribe, can experience the Skywalk, scenic vistas, ziplining, helicopter tours and boat rides on the Colorado River.
The Skywalk is located on the West Rim about 90 minutes north of Kingman on the Hualapai reservation.
The glass and steel structure extends more than 70 feet past the Grand Canyon walls to create a see-through platform suspended 4,000 feet above the floor.
