This company is an affiliation with Good Sam RV insurance Company and as such an underwriter. We have had an absolutely horrible time with this company. They have drawn out our claim on a fire that destroyed our RV primary home. They have done their best to press us to drop the claim, because of sure frustration in reliving the worst day of our lives. They really do not care. They have very little integrity and very little sense of urgency with our losing our home. It is hard to keep on going with their treatment and customer service. I am ashamed of having to deal with them. As a Combat Veteran and a member of multiple Veteran Service Organizations, I will do my best to inform the Veteran community of their actions and get this company placed on the black list for dealing with Active Duty, Retirees and Veterans. They are disgraceful. Please take your business to a more honorable provider. Please.

BEWARE! AVOID.... AVOID.... AVOID!! National General denied our claim based on inaccurate information and then they made things up in order to justify their denial. They were going to pay our claim (the first adjustor asked me to take pictures of everything, make an itemized list that included prices we paid for the items and then he said he would let us know what they will pay for our loss). Then, another adjustor took over and FIVE months later, our claim was denied which we were not expecting at all. National General said it was "MOST LIKELY" due to wear and tear.... (This is on a $90,000, 3 year old RV that was in excellent like new condition.) Our claim was wrongfully denied and National General is sticking to their version of the story and have completely disregarded the facts.

Since the denial letter six months ago, we have been trying to tell National General that they have incorrect facts but they have refused to listen (why would they want to....?) and we have been requesting an appeal. First of all, National General never did grant us an appeal (I don't think it will be fair anyway since two managers agree with the decision and another manager refused to get back with us). Secondly, National General sent us three additional letters, all of which said something a little different as to why the claim was denied. Also, this process should not have taken as long as it did.

Just take a look at National General's reviews everywhere and especially at the Better Business Bureau and Yelp to see how many people out there are not happy with National General. I am still fighting this and this has been a very stressful experience to say the least. Now it is the principle. An insurance company should not be able to deny a claim based on made up information and lies. That is not right!

National General RV (an Allstate company) sent us our policy renewal with a 40% increase ($1000 to $1400). Our RV has been insured with them since 2019, we have no new accidents and no policy changes. I called the company and was told "it's the cost of doing business you your state" however none of our other policy with other company has such a steep increase. To top it off I asked if I could cancel my policy (after it was paid in full) and I was told there is a 10% cancellation fee. This is by far the worst customer service I've ever experienced, the agent had no explanation for any of my questions and offered little to no help just "you can call this other 800 number and ask for way to save on your policy" which I take as "buy more stuff from us". Thankfully we never had a claim with this company, I can only imagine how bad that would go. Stay far away from this company.

We had Nat Gen through Good Sam for our truck, motorcycle and RV. We filed a claim when someone damaged our rig and they were no help at all. Although we owned it and had paid insurance on it for 2 weeks, a third party company drove it to us. They damaged it and Nat Gen refused to pay because they said it wasn't yet in our possession. Why were we paying them then??? When I cancelled, they charged me 10% of my premium as a penalty!!! We have switched insurance before and never had anyone charge us. In this case we cancelled because they were awful (not to mention overpriced). They proved at cancellation just how right we were and how awful they are!!! Save yourself grief and money and go to Geico. I wish I had never left them to begin with!!!!

National General is newly purchased by State Farm and is now a subsidiary of that company. Anyway approached State Farm for my insurance needs. I was told they would cover my home and autos and National General would cover my RV. I signed a month prior to the effective date. I was given a full annual premium of $460 which I paid at signing. I did not see in the documentation that there was unexplained "Additional Charges" of $60 that was included in the premium. After the effective date I downloaded the declarations page and saw that the Additional Charges now had the description of an Acquisition Charge.

When I questioned the fee no one could provide to me a detailed explanation or breakdown of what this $60 was. I decided just 11 days into the policy to cancel and renew the policy with my previous insurance. The refund I received instead of being $446.14 which is the result of taking the daily cost of the full premium and multiplying it by 354 days I was sent $387. When I questioned why the refund was so low I was told that the "Acquisition Charges" were not refundable. Since it was included in the Full Premium then based on State Insurance regulation the fee should have been prorated just like $400 was that per the paperwork was to cover the RV. After this runaround I am glad I stopped my association with this company and advise all not to insure with National General to avoid the fees that I have never seen charged by any other insurance company.

Updated on 11/16/2020: Following up: Good Sam/National General Insurance has been in touch with us and still no help from them. I told them if they couldn't meet me even part of the way then don't waste my time or their time. They keep saying long term water damage and I keep saying if I had long term water damage I would have put in a claim years ago. I had their insurance from day one. Been in our RV for almost 3 years. If we had water I would have done something sooner. I am trying to make it very clear, DO NOT USE this company for insurance. There are other companies that I now know about that will take care of your needs unlike National General.

Original Review: We purchased National General Insurance in Jan. 2018 as full time RVers and paid over $1300 a year for almost 3 years. Never had a claim until last week we had water in our back bunkhouse. Well we put in a claim and they denied the claim and said it was long term damage. Have never had any water damage but now it is long term because they don't want to pay. Not happy and this policy is an absolute waste of money. Will never use them again and never recommend them to anyone. DO NOT USE this company!

Had extensive damage to 400K Monaco and filed a claim with National General. After weeks of waiting we were told it was all our fault and due to our negligence allowing deterioration. We had lots of work done on the coach and the technicians never noticed the damage before the incident requiring the claim. Contacted our attorney and was told that Case Law precedent was the reason our claim was denied. We paid thousands in premium and are left with no relief or satisfaction. Our take away: never deal with this or any RV insurance company without doing your homework first. Would have given a 0 if it was available.

We purchased National General Insurance 2 and a half years ago for our new CLASS A Motor home. All good until we needed them. Our Motor home refrigerator caught on fire at an RV park and was completely destroyed. We were over 200 miles away from home. When we called National General phone number to report the claim, the representative took all the information, but that was it!

When I asked about how the RV would be moved from the park, the representative told me to call our towing insurance, we had AAA, however, AAA told me they do not tow destroyed motor homes. We spent over 8 hours at the RV park trying to get the RV towed out of the park! After hours of going back and forth with a representative, the tow company finally arrived! We left the park with our friends and found out weeks later, the RV had never been towed! I was furious, called National General, they didn't know that the RV was still at the Park! Finally all worked out, but horrible service! Right hand doesn't know what the left hand is doing! BUYER BEWARE, YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR!

Had hail damage on my airstream travel trailer. Went to one of the largest airstream dealers in the nation for a repair quote. After a very frustrating negotiation with the claims adjuster, they finally paid out approximately 75% of the repair quote. Note that I bought this policy through Good Sam.

I had National Insurance for my motorhome for 2 years with no problems until it was time to file a claim. This summer dust devil hit our RV while traveling through the desert on I-10. It tore the driver wheel well fender off. They repeatedly refused the claim stating they didn't believe this could happen. Also, that I could not prove there was a windstorm therefore the damage was due to deterioration. They constantly placed the responsibility on me to prove the claim rather on them to disprove the claim. I will NEVER deal with this company again!

After six months they finally relented and issued a check. However, they changed the claim from comprehensive to collision. The final insult, ensuring our rates would increase from this incident. The customer service was terrible. They provided no explanations for their decisions or actions and I constantly had to reach out to them for information. Even then I could not get any explanations from them. They will put you off and wear you down hoping you will go away!
