A few months back BOOM! Studios created a bit of a stir when they announced that BRZRKR, the twelve-issue series co-created by Keanu Reeves, would be available for preorder via Kickstarter. The project went on to raise over a million dollars via the platform. Now BOOM! is returning to the Kickstarter well once more, looking to fund a set of six deluxe hardcovers collecting all 55 issues of the publisher’s entire initial Mighty Morphin Power Rangers series.
The campaign, which launched today ands runs through Thursday, February 4th, will offer Kickstarter-exclusive editions for all six hardcovers. Backers can buy a single book for $100 (for the ‘Mighty’ edition) or $125 (for the ‘Morphin’ edition, which includes a slipcover), or the full set of six books beginning at $500 for the ‘Mighty’ editions. Each hardcover will feature a Kickstarter-exclusive cover with artwork by Goñi Montes.
The hardcover set will also be available in a ‘Megazord’ edition, which includes a cardboard standee of Megazord (presumably not to scale with the actual Megazord) for displaying each book.
To date four deluxe edition Mighty Morphin Power Rangers hardcovers have been put out by BOOM! Studios, at a retail price of $75 each. Each of those hardcovers includes at least twelve issues’ worth of content, plus bonus material including new original stories not available anywhere else. The existing Year One and Year Two hardcovers are currently out-of-print, while the Year Three hardcover (aka Shattered Grid) is still available from BOOM! in limited quantities. The fourth volume, Beyond the Grid, was released in November and appears to already have gone out of print, with no listing anywhere on BOOM!’s site for the book.
BOOM!’s BRZRKR campaign drew criticism from a few different corners, with the publisher apparently using Kickstarter more as a marketing platform than as a means to raise necessary funds to publish the book. Creators suggested that BOOM!’s campaign would draw backers away from smaller projects, while direct market retailers objected to BOOM! offering a high-profile book directly to consumers. Whether this new campaign will draw similar criticism or not, considering there’s no movie star attached to it, remains to be seen.

Fans will have the opportunity to pre-order a complete set of the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers in BOOM! Studios “Deluxe” hardcover format, collecting the entire Mighty Morphin Power Rangers comic book series. This new pre-order campaign will offer three different versions of these hardcovers:
- MIGHTY Editions: these Deluxe format hardcovers feature artwork by Goñi Montes exclusive to this campaign and not available on any other collected editions.
- MORPHIN Editions: these Deluxe format hardcovers feature the previously mentioned cover artwork AND an exclusive slipcase featuring new artwork Goñi Montes, both of which will only be available through this campaign.
- MEGAZORD Editions: these Deluxe format hardcovers feature the previously mentioned cover artwork, the previously mentioned exclusive slipcase, AND an acetate sleeve featuring new artwork of a portion of the Megazord.
Fans can pre-order at three primary levels including (1) individual volumes, (2) a complete set of all six volumes, and (3) ultra-premium, limited collectible sets through February 4, 2021.
Additionally, BOOM! Studios is offering fans who pre-order before 10:00am PST on January 6, 2021, a free set of six Power Rangers Helmet pins as a special Thank You.

Created by Haim Saban and launched in 1993 with Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, the franchise celebrates its 28th season, “Power Rangers Dino Fury” premiering this year on Saturdays at 8 a.m. (ET/PT) on Nickelodeon in the U.S.
