12 New Coronavirus Deaths In PA, Including Police Officer

HARRISBURG, PA — There were 1,470 additional positive cases of the new coronavirus reported Monday in Pennsylvania, bringing the statewide total to 12,980 cases in 65 counties.

Twelve new deaths were reported, bringing the statewide total to 162. One of the recent deaths is confirmed to be a Philadelphia Police lieutenant.

Most of the patients hospitalized are aged 65 or older, and most of the deaths have occurred in patients 65 or older, state health officials said.

There have been no pediatric deaths to date. More data on death and hospitalization rates can be seen here.

In response to the public health crisis, Gov. Tom Wolf has ordered all non-life-sustaining businesses in Pennsylvania close their physical locations. Enforcement is underway.

A Stay at Home order is now in place across Pennsylvania.

Wolf said Monday that school and non-essential business closures are currently "indefinite."

“Now more than ever, as we continue to see COVID-19 cases and deaths rise in Pennsylvania, we need Pennsylvanians to take action,” Secretary of Health Dr. Rachel Levine said. “Those actions should be to stay calm, stay home and stay safe. If you must go out, please limit it to as few trips as possible and wear a mask to protect not only yourself, but other people as well. We need all Pennsylvanians to heed these efforts to protect our vulnerable Pennsylvanians, and also our healthcare workers and frontline responders.”
