GREENBURGH, NY — Rep. Mondaire Jones has requested federal funding for a sidewalk on a heavily-used section of Dobbs Ferry Road.

Adding sidewalks along Dobbs Ferry Road, a/k/a New York State Route 100B, is one of the town's highest priorities. Greenburgh's Sidewalk Prioritization Report, completed in 2020, names this section of Dobbs Ferry Road near Knollwood Road as one of its two top state road projects.

The Congressman is asking for $2.5 million from the Community Project Funding Program.

"This would be an enormous help," Greenburgh Town Supervisor Paul Feiner told Patch. "If we get the federal funding, it would really enhance the quality of life for local residents."

Route 100B is a heavily trafficked state road that sees about 10,000 daily vehicle trips. Almost a mile of the road between Route 100A and Route 119 has no sidewalk. Part of that will be constructed in 2022 by Brightview Senior Living, which is building senior housing at 289 Dobbs Ferry Road. This federal funding could help cover the rest, Feiner said.

Local residents including senior citizens and low-income families would benefit immensely from safe access on foot to local businesses, schools and churches, Feiner said.

The town has systematically improved its pedestrian infrastructure over the last seven years, approving, designing, overseeing, and or directly constructing more than five miles of sidewalk. It's a quality-of-life issue, Feiner said.

Part of the federal appropriations process, the Community Project Funding Program is an opportunity for members of Congress to support projects that benefit their districts. The request has been submitted to the Appropriations Committee, and it is up to the committee to determine which programs ultimately receive federal funding, Jones said in his announcement.
