Golf: Bruso finishes strong to place 4th at NEPGA Assistants Championship

Bob Bruso of Blackstone National Golf Club finished fourth in the NEPGA Assistants Championship last week.

Bob Bruso of Blackstone National Golf Club in Sutton improved his score by eight shots in the second round to finish fourth in the NEPGA Assistants Championship last week at Renaissance GC in Haverhill.

Bruso followed his opening-round 78 with a 2-under 70 to finish at 4-over 148.

By finishing in the top six, Bruso earned his way into the National Car Rental Assistant PGA Professional Championship Nov. 12-15 at PGA Golf Club’s Wanamaker Course in Port St. Lucie, Florida.

When the NEPGA Assistants Championship was last played at the Renaissance in 2018, Bruso shot a 2-under 70 to win the rain-shortened tournament.

Shawn Warren of Falmouth CC in Maine shot 69-66-135 last week to win the event for the fourth time. He also won in 2011, 2016 and 2017.

Last month, Warren competed in the PGA Championship at TPC Harding Park then cruised to a 5-stroke victory in the NEPGA Championship for his second consecutive section title and third overall.

Rick Durocher of Cyprian Keyes GC in Boylston shot 76-80-156 to tie for 16th last week.
