Whiskey Cavalier Season 1 Episode 12 Review: Two of a Kind

at .  Updated at .

It was another hour of whiskey and fun.

We found out a little more about Frankie on Whiskey Cavalier Season 1 Episode 12 when the case she and Will had to investigate involved her former guardian and her husband.

Will had way too much fun studying old pictures of Frankie and finding out as much as he could about his partner from her teen years.

Kelly - Tall - Whiskey Cavalier Season 1 Episode 12

It seems Frankie may have picked up some of her closed off habits from Kelly. Kelly took her in after her parents died and raised her until Frankie left, but when Frankie joined the CIA, she distanced herself from Kelly.

Given Frankie's job, family members could be a liability, and it was safe for Kelly if she was no longer around. Kelly went on to start a family of her own. Frankie didn't know how to process a lot of that because of Kelly's turnaround.

Family Photos - Tall - Whiskey Cavalier Season 1 Episode 12

One of the things Frankie loved most about Kelly was how guarded she was, but Kelly outgrew that and learned how to open herself up to love. She was a happily married wife and mother.

She had no idea her husband was involved in the cartel. Hell, her husband was the head of a cartel.

It was the most shocking revelation of the hour, and that includes finding out about Frankie's pink prom dress, Britney Spears phase, and questionable fashion choice of wearing cornrows in her youth.

Who knew the nerdy looking, bespectacled accountant was the crime boss of the cartel? How was he able to hide it from Kelly for so long?

She's a smart, observant woman; he must be good at duplicity for keeping her in the dark.

Undercover - Tall - Whiskey Cavalier Season 1 Episode 1

Kelly didn't take well to Frankie telling her about Danny, but in Kelly's defense, Frankie had not been part of her life for a long time. She probably felt like Frankie abandoned her, and since Frankie's presence was treasured and inspired Kelly to start a family of her own, it stung more.

She messed up warning Danny about Frankie; it could have cost her everything -- her job, her family, and her child. Her impulse was understandable, but it was harsh of her to tell Frankie she wasn't family anymore.

Weapon of Mass Destruction - Whiskey Cavalier Season 1 Episode 3

Kelly was the closest thing Frankie had to family for years (if you exclude the team). Frankie tries to compose herself as best as she can and often, but those words hit her like a dagger to the heart.

Kelly made up for it when she put her life on the line to protect Frankie. Danny almost killed her once, but Kelly was not about to let Danny do it again.

Frankie's Unimpressed - Whiskey Cavalier Season 1 Episode 2

It was brave of her to block Frankie, a trained spy, from Danny's potential bullet. It goes to show how Kelly always had maternal instincts for Frankie; she was a protective momma bear who would die for Frankie if needed.

Will: Maybe golf is your sport.
Frankie: Sorry, I didn't have time growing up to play rich white guy sports. I was too busy being cool and having fun.

Fortunately, Kelly was the one able to talk Danny down, and he got arrested. She saved the day, but the overwhelming, raw emotion Frankie displayed with Kelly was lovely.

I appreciated the softer side of Frankie; she had an openness, softness, and lightness with Kelly we haven't seen before.

She may follow Kelly's advice about opening herself up to love and vulnerability. It's already happening with Frankie; we saw it at the top of the hour.

Breaking Trust - Tall - Whiskey Cavalier Season 1 Episode 8

Frankie let her bad guy go during their assignment in Los Angeles. She was too distracted by the gunshots she heard. She was afraid Will was hurt or worse, and she shifted her focus from the perpetrator to Will.

For Frankie, the moment highlighted how feelings are a liability on the job. She figured that her care for Will made her screw up as an agent.

Frankie's tough exterior took a beating or two the entire hour. Fortunately, Will enlisted the help of Ray to track down the guy who got away from Frankie so she could get her collar.

An Eagle Scout - Whiskey Cavalier Season 1 Episode 3

Will is so thoughtful and considerate. Kudos to Ray for making progress and not getting silly or desperate trying to get back into Will's good graces.

Did you love Will teaching Frankie how to golf before they broke out into that kickass fight scene? My favorite moment goes to Standish who also had the best line before knocking someone out with a golf club.

Agents at Large - Tall - Whiskey Cavalier Season 1 Episode 2

Standish and Jai were the highlight of the hour and beyond hilarious. They play off of one another well, and they have the best sibling/ besties vibe.

Oh, I'm sorry. I forgot to say fore. Fore, bitch!

Standish

They bicker, make fun of, and annoy each other, but they also have each other's backs. They didn't hesitate to join forces in their petty, passive-aggressive war against Susan.

They were childish but too funny to be angry with, even though Susan didn't deserve half the things that happened to her. It's her job to evaluate them and keep tabs on their behavior. She's the team psychologist/behavioral analyst for a reason.

Standish and Jai were behaving childishly, but it was too amusing to be annoying in the least bit. I half expected them to place a "No Girls Allowed" sign on the bathroom door leading to their secret lair/man cave.

Jai and Standish Chest Bump

Jai is such a colossal dork. He would be the person to find a secret passageway leading to a secret room and stock it full of explosives and his toys and gadgets.

Boys and their toys, right?

Jai's other computer set up int he room suggests he planned on telling Standish about it early on. Jai couldn't wait to share it and play.

Standish: Susan is a scary woman.
Jai: Don't you feel that about all women?
Standish: Yes, but Susan is scary.

Ray had a moment of wisdom and reminded the guys of how ludicrous it was that they were giving Susan the cold-shorted for doing her job. I'm happy they got over it in the end.

Of course, it took a different turn when Susan revealed she knew about the secret spot the whole time. She had to give herself away by knowing where the drinks and glasses were.

Mind Reader - Tall - Whiskey Cavalier Season 1 Episode 2

I guess you can't keep anything from the Mind Hunter.

We did not get anymore followup on The Trust, Emma's death, or Martyna's role as a double agent and her killer, but the Whiskey Cavalier series finale will address it.

Frankie: Why are you smiling?
Will: Me? I'm not smiling. This is my face. I have resting smile face.
