PHD: Kootenai County COVID deaths at 316

Kootenai County deaths attributed to the coronavirus now total 316, according to the Panhandle Health District’s website Monday.

Of those, 306, or 97% of the total deaths, were over the age of 60.

Districtwide, COVID-related deaths total 471.

The website says that the hospitalization rate of those diagnosed with the coronavirus in Kootenai County is 6.3%, while the death rate is 1.3%.

Kootenai Health reported it had 116 COVID-19 patients on Monday, the most since the pandemic began. Thirty-nine required critical care.

KH recently reported that from July 1 to Sept. 21, it had 662 COVID-19 positive admissions. The patient count was close to equally divided among adult groups. There 119 in the 31-50 age group; 122 in the 51-60; 166 in 61-70; 131 in the 71-80; and 79 over the age of 809. Twelve were under the age of 18.

Meanwhile, the number of people in Kootenai County who have received at least one dose of the vaccine rose to 67,986, 48% of the eligible population.

In the PHD, 88,741, or 42%, of those age 12 and older have been fully vaccinated.

Ada County has the highest vaccination rate at 68% of those who have received at least one dose, while Payette County, at 35%, has the lowest.

Gov. Brad Little and Idaho Department of Health and Welfare Director Dave Jeppesen will answer questions from the public about COVID-19 during an hourlong AARP telephone town-hall at 11 a.m. Pacific Time.
