Southwest PA Coronavirus Death Toll Jumps

PITTSBURGH, PA - The coronavirus death toll in southwestern Pennsylvania jumped from seven to 12 between Saturday and Sunday, the largest one-day jump in fatalities since the outbreak began. Six of the deaths were in Beaver County, four were in Allegheny County and two were in Butler County.

The fourth Allegheny Count death was reported on Sunday. The person was in their 80s and had been hospitalized.

In Allegheny County, the number of coronavirus cases increased to 605, up from 552 on Saturday and 476 on Friday. Eighty-seven people have been hospitalized in the county during the outbreak, up from 86 on Saturday and 78 on Friday.

With 135 confirmed cases in Westmoreland County, 84 in Butler County, 69 in Beaver County and 46 in Washington County, that brings the total number of coronavirus cases in the five-county southwestern Pennsylvania region to 939 as of Sunday morning. That's up from 842 as of Saturday morning and 720 on Friday morning.

According to Pennsylvania Department of Health figures, Allegheny County has recorded the fourth-most coronavirus cases in the state behind Montgomery, Philadelphia and Delaware counties.

All Pennsylvania counties remain under a stay-at-home order through at least April 30. Gov. Tom Wolf has ordered schools and non-life-sustaining businesses closed indefinitely.
