MILLTOWN — According to the Milltown Fire Department website, the municipality's fire department was organized on Feb. 22, 1911, under the leadership of Milltown Mayor Richter. The 83-member department operated out of a firehouse on South Main Street. On Aug. 5, 1911, the department received its first fire apparatus, a 1911 Boyd Bros. firetruck. The department celebrated the arrival of the two-cylinder autocar with a picnic at Milltown Park. The firetruck, which cost $4,100, featured two 40-gallon chemical tanks, hose and ladders.
