These looks have legs!
Caitlyn Jenner turned Manhattan in to her personal Caitwalk, showing off her tiny waist and gold-medal gams in a series of runway-ready looks.
The 65-year-old stunner has wowed in seven different designer ensembles while in town filming “I am Cait,” her new reality series.
Hot on the heels of her Vanity Fair cover, the transgender fashion icon arrived in style at “An American in Paris” on Broadway Tuesday night, wearing a $498 midnight blue lace wrap dress and $198 croc crossbody bag by Diane von Furstenberg.
Earlier in the day, she went shopping at Patricia Field‘s Bowery boutique in a classic leopard-print DVF wrap dress and sexy slingback heels and emerged ready to party, wearing a $70 sequin miniskirt, $240 neoprene blazer and $54 clutch emblazoned with Disney princesses. Sources say the legendary “Sex and the City” designer, who had her store windows covered for the occasion, helped Jenner put together the look for an E! docuseries set to air in July.
Jenner also showcased her curves in a black DVF wrap dress, $368, with T-strap sandals that showcased her perfect pink pedicure while visiting the LGBT Community Center on Monday. She then recycled the same skintight $1,490 Herve Leger jacket and $690 bandage skirt that she wore in her groundbreaking Vanity Fair shoot for dinner with Diane Sawyer at Tutto Il Giorno later that night.
“I thought she would be more conservative, a little more modest, especially in the beginning … but she’s giving you heel, she’s giving you leopard print, she’s giving you sequins in the middle of the day,” says celebrity stylist Phillip Bloch. “That closet door has been opened, and she is out .”
At an NYC Pride event at the Dream Downtown, Jenner paired T by Alexander Wang circular hole jacquard midi skirt, $195, with a belted white tunic before changing in to a form-fitting little black dress for a night on the town.
Jenner confessed in her video promo for the Vanity Fair cover story earlier this month that Caitlyn’s look was extremely important.
“You never wanted to look like a guy in a dress,” she says. “You really have to look the part. You have to look very feminine.”
Mission accomplished.
Jenner is flaunting her new femininity in figure-hugging wrap dresses or classy LBDs that show a tasteful amount of cleavage, and accessorizing with ladylike strappy black slingbacks, chic clutches and delicate gold hoops.
And she’s flashing plenty of her toned stems. “She clearly loves her legs, because she’s showing a lot more leg. Almost every look has been above the knee,” says Robert Verdi, stylist on TLC’s “Brides Gone Styled.”
“And she loves a clutch,” he adds, referring the assorted snakeskin Elisabeth Weinstock purses Jenner has been favoring. “It’s a more feminine accessory than a bulky handbag or a shoulder bag.”
Jenner is probably picking up fashion tips from her daughters, as the leopard-print wrap dress and the Herve Leger two-piece could have been plucked straight from stepdaughter Kim Kardashian’s wardrobe.
Kardashian even helped Jenner sort through her closet in the “Keeping Up With the Kardashians: About Bruce” special last month, where she told her transitioning stepfather, “I think you have to be chicer than this,” after passing on a fuchsia top.
But the mix of safer, frumpier pieces and the sexy little sequined mini skirt reveal that Caitlyn’s style is still developing.
“This is her rebirth, and she’s going to continue to evolve,” says Verdi. “She doesn’t want to look slutty, she doesn’t want to look age-inappropriate, but she also doesn’t want to look old. So she is consciously wearing younger, sexier, more fashion-forward clothes, but with a level of taste.”
Jenner’s perfectly coifed blowout — a little Kate Middleton, a little Cindy Crawford — has been the crowning glory to all of her street-style cred this week.
“It’s incredible to me, to look at this 65-year-old woman, how hot she is. You can’t deny it,” says salon owner Ted Gibson, who likens her voluminous, romantic waves to 40s pin-up Rita Hayworth or Sofia Loren.
He speculates Jenner has probably colored her hair a uniform, rich brunette shade. “Over 50% of women around the country color treat their hair, so why wouldn’t Caitlyn?” he says. “It looks effortless and chic — it’s not too contrived or teased. She’s not trying to look like a 20-year-old girl with disheveled hair. It still has a bit of coif to it, but it’s not too coifed, or that would be matronly.”
And she’s certainly putting her best foot forward, proudly strutting in heels up and down New York’s uneven stairs and sidewalks.
“I have to give her credit for being out and about in heels and shorter skirts — it’s quite a challenge, especially with the paparazzi shooting you,” said Veronica Vera, founder of Veronica Vera’s Finishing School For Boys Who Want To Be Girls in Chelsea, which offers stiletto-stepping lessons and cross-dressing makeovers.
The slinky black slingbacks that Jenner chose to slip her size 13 feet into are trickier than a simple pair of pumps would be. “It does not give you as much support because the whole back of the shoe is open,” said Vera. “And the pointy toe is going to pinch. But you know — beauty suffers.”
