Three Corpus Christi police officers are on paid administrative leave after an officer-involved shooting that killed one on the city's southside early Saturday morning.

The police department announced on its blotter page the incident occurred at approximately 2:32 a.m. Saturday at the 5300 block of Bonham Street after officers were called for a disturbance in progress, involving a weapon.

When officers arrived on scene, they attempted to speak to both parties. The blotter states officers noticed a woman was in distress, and when officers attempted to separate her from the man, in order to check on her well-being, the man confronted the officers with a handgun.

As the officers attempted to retreat, the man discharged his handgun at the officers. One officer returned fire and struck the man, the blotter states.

The man retreated into the home and would not communicate further with officers who were attempting to check on his welfare.

Officers with the department's Emergency Response Team were called out to assist the officers on scene in order to make a safe entry into the home.

The team, which utilized a robotic camera, discovered the 66-year old man had succumbed to his injuries. A handgun was discovered near the man and secured and the woman involved in the disturbance was able to exit the home safely, the blotter post stated.
