Upstate NY man killed in dump truck crash

WATSON, N.Y. -- An Upstate New York man was killed this weekend after the dump truck he was driving rolled over on a rural road in Lewis County, state police said.

Johney E. Rogers Jr., 49, of Port Leyden, was driving a dump truck owned by VS Virkler & Sons, Inc. west on Gyore Road at 7:19 a.m. Saturday when he exited the road, according to a state police news release. The dump truck landed on its passenger side.

Rogers was pronounced dead at the scene, state police said.

VS Virkler & Sons is a family-owned business that supplies redi-mix concrete, limestone, granite and sand, according to the company website.

The Lewis County Sheriff’s Office, Lewis County Search and Rescue, Lowville Fire Department and Groff’s Towing assisted state police at the scene.

State police say the crash remains under investigation.
