Rhode Island Native Brett Berard Gets PC Shootout Win over UMass
The No. 18 Providence College men’s hockey team skated to a scoreless 0-0 tie against No. 8 UMass in game one of a home-and-home series at Mullins Center on Friday afternoon (Jan. 22). The Friars claimed the extra point in the Hockey East standings with a 1-0 win in the shootout.

NOTES
-Both teams skated through all three periods and overtime scoreless. The Friars outshot the Minutemen in the first two periods by a 20-9 margin but were unable to capitalize on seven power play opportunities.
-Stauber held strong in the third period and overtime, stopping all 19 shots he faced over the last 25 minutes of play.
-Brett Berard scored in the shootout to give the Friars the extra point in the Hockey East standings.
– Jaxson Stauber recorded his third shutout of the year, stopping all 28 shots and improving his goals-against average to 1.88 and save percentage to .922 in 11 games this season.
– This is Providence’s second scoreless tie of the season. The Friars also claimed a shootout win against Vermont on Jan. 1 after a scoreless tie. Overall, Providence 2-1 in shootouts in 2020-21.
– Greg Printz boasted a team-high four shots on goal.
