Geneva Elliott

Geneva Elliott, 102, of Colorado Springs died Thursday, July 18, at Mount St. Francis Nursing Center in Colorado Springs.She was born May 7, 1900, in Morning Sun, Iowa, to Andrew and Anna Alexander.In 1912, Mrs. Elliott moved with her family to Regina, Saskatchewan, where they lived until 1919. They later moved to Greeley.She attended Geneva College in Beaver Falls, Pa., and later finished her degree at Colorado State Teachers College, now the University of Northern Colorado. She taught for a brief time in Hazelton, Johnston and Beaver Falls schools.In 1927, she married Clifford Elliott of Superior, Neb., and they made their home in Glendale, Calif. In 1936, they moved to Greeley because of Mr. Elliott’s illness. He died in 1945. Mrs. Elliott continued to live in Greeley until September 1999.Mrs. Elliott taught in Galeton for five years and at the Kersey consolidated schools for 23 years. In August 1965, she began her Avon career which lasted for 30 years. She was a remarkable woman and a strong example of Proverbs 31.Survivors are three daughters, Gwendolyn Elliott of Indianapolis, Ethel Pasma of Grand Rapids, Mich., and Marcia Elliott of Colorado Springs; a sister, Beth Morrow of Pacific Grove, Calif.; a sister-in-law, Martha Andrews of Elsworth, Kan.; five grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. A sister and four brothers are deceased.Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the Allnutt Funeral Service Macy Chapel. Interment will be in Linn Grove Cemetery.In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Navigators or Multiple Sclerosis Foundation in care of Allnutt Funeral Service, 702 13th St., Greeley, CO 80631. Phyllis I. Hebert, 66, of Roggen died Tuesday, July 16, at North Colorado Medical Center.She was born June 12, 1936, in Nowata, Okla., to Charles and Mertie Jo Bodle.On May 3, 1953, she married Henry Hebert in Clayton, N.M.After living in Arvada for a period of time, the Hebert family moved to Roggen about 1970. Mrs. Hebert was very active in the Roggen community. She was a member of the Christ Community Church of Roggen and the Roggen Lions Club. She helped take care of many of the elderly, was one of the founders of Roggen Fun Days and enjoyed being with people. She was a good wife and mother, and her grandchildren were very special to her. She enjoyed cooking, travel, camping and fishing. She also enjoyed listening to country music.Survivors are her husband, Henry of Roggen; a daughter, Sheleste Grauberger of Roggen; three sons, Duane of Roggen, Rodney of Lochbuie and Hank Jr. of Hudson; her mother, Mertie Jo Bodle of Pueblo; two sisters, Darlene Scott of Olathe, Kan., and Patty Dodson of Pueblo; two brothers, Tom Bodle and Gene Bodle, both of Pueblo; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Her father and a sister are deceased.Services will be at 2 p.m. today at the Christ Community Church in Roggen. Interment will be in Memory Gardens in Fort Morgan.Contributions may be made to the Phyllis Hebert Memorial Fund in care of Citizen State Bank in Keenesburg. The Heer & Jolliffe Mortuary of Fort Morgan is in charge of arrangements.

Lydia Johnson

Lydia R. Johnson, 93, of Greeley died Thursday, July 18, at Centennial Health Care Center.She was born Dec. 7, 1908, in Paulski, Russia, to Wilhelm and Maria Renata (Krause) Reiche.On July 2, 1934, she married Gustav A. Johnson in Greeley. He died Dec. 16, 1980.Mrs. Johnson and her husband farmed in the Eaton and Galeton areas and had lived in Greeley since July 1, 1958. She was primarily a homemaker and helped her husband on the farm. She also was a nurse’s aide at Weld County General Hospital, now North Colorado Medical Center, for 10 years.Mrs. Johnson was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church and was an avid gardener and also enjoyed crocheting.Survivors are her daughter, Renada Reigel of Greeley; two sons-in-law, George Lair of Milliken and Glen Reigel of Greeley; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. A daughter Lenora Lair died Oct. 14, 1997, and two sisters and four brothers are deceased.Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Allnutt Funeral Service Macy Chapel. Larry Ley

Larry Ley, 62, of Eaton died Thursday, July 18, at his home of metastasized melanoma/ skin cancer.He was born April 3, 1940, in Greeley to Henry M. and Elma (Dumler) Ley.On Aug. 18, 1962, he married Vickie Schwartz in Greeley.Mr. Ley had lived in the Kersey/Gill area before moving to Galeton in 1968. He graduated from Kersey High School in 1958.A rancher and farmer in Weld County all his life, Mr. Ley did custom hay baling and took pride in his work. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and horseback riding and rode bulls in his younger years. He was a good dancer, especially the Dutch Hop, and loved spending time with his grandchildren, Codie Lee, Brook and James Mercer.Survivors are his wife, Vickie Ley of Eaton; a daughter, Teresa Mercer of Kersey; his mother, Elma Ley of Ault; three sisters, Dorothy Campbell and Juanita Peters, both of Kersey, and Kathy Dilka of Greeley; two brothers, Fred Ley and Hank Ley Jr., both of Kersey; a sister-in-law, Connie Ley of Greeley; and three grandchildren. His father and a brother, Don Ley, are deceased.Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Evangelical Free Church of Eaton, 1325 3rd St., Eaton. Beatrice Strong

Beatrice Viola Strong, 91, of Greeley, formerly of Ault, died Wednesday, July 17, at Kenton Manor Living Center, Greeley.She was born Aug. 20, 1910, in Hoyt to Ivan Harley and Carrie Cecelia (Sorensen) Wilson.Mrs. Strong attended first grade at Masters, second and third grade at Grout School and grades 4-10 at West Pawnee School. She lived at her father’s homestead until 1923, when she moved to the Hereford area.On June 7, 1939, she moved to Nunn. In 1945, she and her two daughters moved to Ault. She worked many years at Dahlgren Radio and TV in Ault. She lived in Ault until three years ago when she moved to Garden Square and then Kenton Manor Living Center, both in Greeley.Mrs. Strong was a member of Cornerstone Community Church, Ault. A member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Ault, she was a past worthy matron. She also was a member of Amaranth and Ault Senior Citizens.Survivors are a daughter and son-in-law, Marlene Kay and Harold Sidwell of Carr; a sister, Etta Nix of Eaton; two brothers, Claude Wilson of Sun City, Ariz., and Neil Wilson of Cheyenne; five grandchildren; and two great grandchildren. A daughter Donna Beth Foos, a grandson Harold Todd Sidwell, two sisters and four brothers are deceased.Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. today at Cornerstone Community Church, 204 A St., Ault.
