Another Coronavirus Death In Alameda County | Nursing Home Cases

ALAMEDA COUNTY, CA — The Alameda County Public Health Department reported another death attributed to coronavirus on Wednesday, bringing the county's official death toll to 16. After the official count was released, the county confirmed that 6 people had died at a care facility in Hayward. Another 50-plus residents and staff members of the facility are sick.

Earlier Wednesday, the county health department reported 640 confirmed cases of COVID-19, caused by coronavirus. With the Berkeley Health Department's 34 cases, the county total is now 674. On Tuesday, it was 634.

The California death toll has risen to 453, with almost 18,000 cases reported.

And across the country more than 1,800 deaths have occurred, and roughly 425,000 cases confirmed.

Earlier in the day, the Hayward outbreak was one of two reported at Alameda County nursing homes. The other is in Castro Valley.

On Tuesday it was reported that Carlton Senior Living in Pleasant Hill had four residents and nine staff members sick with COVID-19, including 3 who were hospitalized. An outbreak at Orinda Care Center in Orinda, announced last week, has now sickened 49.

Tesla is expected to impose pay cuts and furloughs on employees, after the company's Fremont assembly plant was shuttered as a result of the stay-at-home order.
