REGIONAL — Six more area residents have died from COVID-19, including two in Nobles County, one in Rock County, one in Lyon County, Iowa, and two in Dickinson County, Iowa, according to state health agencies in their daily updates today.
In Nobles County, the deaths included one individual aged 70 to 74, and another aged 85 to 89. The death in Rock County was reported as an individual aged 90 to 94. The deaths in the Iowa counties did not include ages, and no other information is provided.
Meanwhile, another 11 Nobles County residents tested positive for the novel coronavirus during the 24-hour period that ended at 4 p.m. Tuesday. Rock County added seven new cases, Cottonwood County, four, and Jackson, Murray and Pipestone counties each added two new cases.
As of Wednesday, Minnesota’s cumulative number of confirmed positive cases of COVID-19 stands at 139,444 (positive tests and antigen tests), with 123,529 beyond the 10-day isolation period. There were 1,916 new cases of the coronavirus reported in the 24-hour period and 19 deaths (three in private residences; 16 in long-term care or assisted living facilities).
Statewide, 2,387 individuals have now died from COVID-19. Among the dead are 1,669 residents of long-term care or assisted living facilities.

Thus far, 13,938 Minnesota health care workers have contracted the novel coronavirus.
A local snapshot of the virus shows the following cumulative totals since testing began. Numbers of individuals beyond the 10-day isolation period is as of Oct. 21, unless otherwise noted.
Nobles County: 2,318 positive cases; one probable case; 2,206 beyond the 10-day isolation period as of Monday; 18 deaths.
Cottonwood County: 290 positive cases; 251 recovered.
Jackson County: 219 positive cases; 175 recovered; one death.
Murray County: 291 positive cases; 222 recovered; three deaths.
Pipestone County: 361 positive cases; 293 recovered; 17 deaths.
Rock County: 353 positive cases; two probable cases; 264 recovered; five deaths.
From Nobles County Emergency Management: Coronavirus-isolation numbers continue to increase within Nobles County. Facemasks are still a mandated item for access to interior public spaces. Facemasks have to be appropriately worn to protect people from the Coronavirus. Recent studies have indicated the Coronavirus is spread and received from the nose more than the mouth. Therefore, wearing a face mask that does not appropriately cover your nose and mouth is not effective. Also, residents need to remain vigilant to the use of universal precautions in combating the Coronavirus. Hand washing with soap for 20 seconds, physical distancing, staying out of crowded/confined spaces with others, and the use of face masks are all advised.
Congregate care facilities with current COVID-19 exposures in this area include Crossroads and South Shore Care Center in Worthington, Edgebrook Care Center in Edgerton, Maple Lawn Senior Care in Fulda, Good Samaritan Society homes in Luverne, Pipestone, Windom and Westbrook, Ridge View Estates of Pipestone, the Minnesota Veterans Home in Luverne and Tuff Memorial Home, Hills.
The Iowa Department of Health reports 119,526 cases of COVID-19 in its state since testing began, with 90,426 individuals considered recovered. Thus far, 1,680 deaths are blamed on COVID-19 in the state.
In northwest Iowa:
Lyon County: 559 positive cases; 386 recovered; eight deaths. Long-term-care facilities with exposures include Lyon Specialty Care of Rock Rapids (29 cases, 20 recovered) and Fellowship Village of Inwood (30 cases, 23 recovered).
Osceola County: 290 positive cases; 191 recovered.
Dickinson County: 762 positive cases; 549 recovered; nine deaths.
Nationwide, Johns Hopkins University reports a cumulative total of 8,790,206 positive cases of COVID-19 in the United States as of 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, with 3,487,666 individuals deemed recovered. There have been 226,864 COVID-related deaths in the United States.
