Lee County COVID-19 vaccine tracker: 57% of residents are fully vaccinated

About 57% of people living in Lee County are fully vaccinated as of Sept. 21, according to data from the Florida Department of Health.

That percentage ranks 18th among all Florida counties. Lee's total of more than 410,000 fully-vaccinated residents is eighth-highest among all 67 counties.

While vaccinations continue to rise, COVID-19 related hospitalizations in Lee County keep declining. On Wednesday morning, Lee Health reported it was caring for 259 COVID patients in its hospitals. That's the lowest number since July 30 when it reported 238 patients. Lee Health also said nine patients died Tuesday, bringing its pandemic death total to 1,119.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention considers someone fully vaccinated two weeks after they've been given a single-dose shot (Johnson & Johnson) or a second shot (either Pfizer or Moderna).

Florida reported 3,528,698 total cases of coronavirus, an increase of 2% from the previous week.

The five counties with the highest percentage of their population fully vaccinated in Florida as of Sept. 21 are Sumter County (80%), Miami-Dade County (71%), St. Johns County (68%), Osceola County (66%) and Sarasota County (65%).
