The owner of a £3 million, six-storey devil castle says his wife hates it and it has been overrun by Satan worshippers, fans and tourists.

A demonic-looking horned figure sits atop the property, called Castillo del Diablo, which owner Tony Wells has decorated with statues of scantily-clad Gothic women and gargoyles.

The interior is adorned with coffins, chandeliers and creepy mannequins that were custom made for the bizarre home in Rosarito, Mexico.

Tony, a real estate developer and painting contractor from California, said he became "obsessed" with the project, but the beachfront property is now so full of quirky objects that it's uninhabitable.

The Gothic art fan, who suspects the property is haunted, said he is transforming it into a museum given the interest from everyone from curious passers-by to those obsessed with the devil.

Tony, 60, told the Sun that his wife Brittany hates the house, and joked: "Oh, if she had it her way she'd burn the whole place down. She wants nothing to do with it."

He figures it is decorated with about 40 mannequins, 800 swords and knives that have been used in "some type of combat or death", and 350 antique mirrors.

There are 40 chandeliers in the master bedroom.

The horned figure that sits atop the castle, Tony said, is a mix of himself and Pan from the Greek mythology.

He said he doesn't believe in the devil.

Tony built the house about eight years ago in Rosarito, a resort town that is just south of the US border and lies on the Pacific coast.

He wanted to build it in the US, but there was no way it would happen, he said.

Tony decided to build it in Mexico because there were no building restrictions and he could essentially do whatever he wanted.

He said: "I said, 'Okay, get ready. I'm going to blow your mind'. The whole of Mexico is becoming famous because of my house, it's a beautiful thing for both of us, I think."

He set out to build something "different", starting with statues of gargoyles in front of the house.

He decided to go even further when he realised passers-by were stopping to take pictures.

As the house attracted visitors a couple of local priests stopped by telling Tony that he should be ashamed because he was building a monstrosity.

He pressed on and the notoriety of the house grew.

Visitors gather outside Castillo del Diablo every day and Satan worshippers even leave presents for the owner.

Some fans have tried to scale the walls to get access to the building.

Tony said: "Everybody's screaming outside, 'Let us in. We'll pay you'. So I figured that's the goal (a museum). It's so intense inside. I want everybody to see. You don't do this not to be noticed."

He claims the house gets so many visitors he can no longer go outside to say hello to them.

Tony suspects the castle is haunted, claiming he and guests have heard strange noise, including children laughing.

He claims he's woken up to the chandeliers swinging back and forth, and has vowed to never stay overnight on his own.

Halloween is a peak period for visitors, with thousands expected to pass by next week.

Tony said it is such a hassle that he stays away from the property on Halloween.
