Daily coronavirus cases in US top 50,000 in new record

.

Wednesday marked the first time in which the number of people in the United States diagnosed with the coronavirus surged past 50,000 in one day.

According to the Washington Post, there were 52,789 cases recorded on Wednesday, a higher single-day tally than any other day since the pandemic broke out and made its way across the Atlantic Ocean. California, Texas, Arizona, North Carolina, and Georgia all experienced new state-based records the same day.

In each of the last eight days, the number of diagnoses of the COVID-19 virus reached new heights that the country had never seen before as the U.S. had not previously eclipsed 35,000 daily cases.

There have been more than 2,600,000 diagnoses across the country since the outbreak and more than 10 million cases globally, according to Johns Hopkins University’s coronavirus tracker.

While many cities and states are starting to reopen, others, including California, Michigan, and New York City, are slowing down their phased reopenings after seeing the increase in cases.
