'Siempre es Hoy' Photo Exhibit Captures the World of Rock en Español From Behind the Lens

Scenes from iconic bands performing on stage or posing for artistically inclined photo shoots set the tone for “Siempre es Hoy.” Portraits of the Mexico's Julieta Venegas, Chile's Gepe, and Los Angeles' own La Santa Cecilia will decorate the walls of the gallery.

Exhibiting photographers underscore the wide spectrum of the event as they, too, hail from the genres' different axis points around the globe including the United States, Argentina, Mexico and Spain. Participants include Floria Gonzales of Mexico City, Maria Madrigal of Austin, Texas, and SanTana's very own Carla Zarate Suarez!

“The artists range from up-and-coming, to well established music photographers,” says Madrigal of La Banda Elastica who is also co-curating. “Some of the portraits that I'm exhibiting are from international artists, like Aterciopelados, going back twenty years ago,” she adds. “There's going to be a special wall for the local scene in Los Angeles featuring bands from that time as well.” Musicians portraying the new wave of Latin Alternative such as Torreblanca and Andrea Balency will bring it all up to date.

The event name takes its inspiration from an album released ten years ago by Gustavo Cerati, a legendary figure who led the seminal Argentine rock band Soda Stereo and had a successful solo career before falling comatose. Portraits of the singer-songwriter feature prominently in “Siempre es Hoy.”

Billing itself as “a photographic exhibition of musical proportions,” this weekend's opening reception wouldn't be complete without an accompanying soundtrack to vibe to. Providing the sounds as gallery goers peruse will be OC's DJ Raly Rock as well as LA's Mucho Musica crew!
