New Memory Care Facility In Lansdowne Stresses Resident Safety

LEESBURG, VA — Lansdowne Heights Memory Care is hosting an official virtual opening Wednesday afternoon for its new facility, a senior care home for people facing challenges associated with dementia, Alzheimer’s disease and other types of memory impairment.

The memory care facility, located at 19520 Sandridge Way in the Lansdowne community, will provide a full range of services, including dining, recreation and on-site nursing. Lansdowne Heights nurses will assist with individual residents' needs such as oxygen management, nebulizer treatments and diabetic care. Aides will provide personal care such as bathing and dressing.

With concerns about the coronavirus at long-term care facilities, Lansdowne Heights said it will be working with residents, family members, staff and vendors to ensure a safe environment for everyone who lives, works or visits the facility. Lansdowne Heights said it will continue to evaluate its move-in procedures so that they at least meet or exceed Centers for Disease Control and Protection guidelines.

All residents will be required to have a negative coronavirus test result within 48 hours of moving into the community. Lansdowne Heights has also partnered with local restoration companies to ensure that all furniture is professionally disinfected prior to moving in.

Starting at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, Lansdowne Heights will be holding a Facebook live event for people to learn more about the facility. Loudoun County Board of Supervisor Michael Turner and local business leaders will be attending the event in person — while maintaining social distancing — to welcome the memory care facility into the community.

The opening will include a small cooking demonstration in one of its dining areas to showcase the type of food that will be served to residents. Officials also plan to show visitors what rooms will look like and let visitors see the patio and activities area.

Lansdowne Heights is now accepting a one-time community fee and scheduling families to move family members into the facility. If a family member moves in before July 30, they can save up to $12,000, which includes the third month free and help with moving or the purchase of furnishings.

The facility will offer 60-private studio residences with their own shower and other amenities for those with a diagnosis of dementia or some form of memory loss. The facility also has eight oversized studios that can accommodate couples that might both have some form of memory challenges.

Lansdowne Heights will be the seventh senior housing community in the Hamister Group portfolio of facilities. The company currently owns and operates facilities in New York, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Tennessee and Virginia.
