State: UP adds 285 virus cases, 31 more in Dickinson

State data Monday showed 285 new confirmed COVID-19 positives in the Upper Peninsula since Friday, including 31 cases in Dickinson County and 29 in Menominee County.

Across the border in Wisconsin, Marinette County had 37 more confirmed positives for the three-day period.

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services coronavirus website Monday listed for the Upper Peninsula since Friday 78 new confirmed COVID-19 positives in Marquette County, 59 in Delta County, 31 in Dickinson County, 29 in Menominee County, 20 in Houghton County, 17 in Chippewa County, 16 in Mackinac County, nine in Iron County, seven in Baraga and Gogebic counties, five in Alger County, three in Luce and Ontonagon counties and one in Schoolcraft County. The state also posted one of the larger recent jumps in the U.P. coronavirus death toll with five, two in Houghton County and one each in Delta, Marquette and Mackinac counties.

Using only the MDHHS numbers, the Upper Peninsula as of Monday has had 24,115 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 473 deaths.

Across the U.P., the MDHHS data Monday had Keweenaw County at 173 confirmed cases and 34 probable, and three confirmed death and one probable death; Luce County, 264 confirmed cases and 322 probable, four confirmed deaths and one probable death; Alger County, 439 confirmed, 264 probable and three deaths, four probable; Schoolcraft County, 444 confirmed cases and 146 probable, four deaths and one probable; Ontonagon County, 504 confirmed, 63 probable and 21 deaths, one probable; Mackinac County, 648 confirmed cases and 344 probable, six deaths; Baraga County, 837 confirmed cases, 146 probable and 41 deaths, three probable; Iron County, 1,154 confirmed cases and 101 probable, 43 deaths and 10 probable; Gogebic County, 1,242 confirmed cases and 374 probable, 23 deaths and 29 probable; Chippewa County, 1,326 confirmed cases and 1,762 probable, and 30 deaths, five probable; Menominee County, 2,234 confirmed cases, 577 probable and 44 deaths, four probable; Dickinson County, 2,779 confirmed cases and 707 probable, 60 deaths and 15 probable; Houghton County, 2,859 confirmed cases, 647 probable, 41 deaths and nine probable; Delta County, 4,176 confirmed cases and 915 probable, 81 deaths and 19 probable; and Marquette County, 5,036 confirmed cases, 1,065 probable and 69 deaths, one probable. State figures can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.

The MDHHS on Monday had 7,733 confirmed new coronavirus positives in Michigan since Friday, or an average of about 2,577 per day for the three days, for a total to date of 1,015,802. The state Monday added 35 deaths attributed to the virus — including 13 that occurred earlier but were recently verified through a vital records review — to reach 20,898.

The state issues new COVID-19 data on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

For the five Wisconsin counties in the region, the state Department of Health Services’ COVID-19 data site Monday had the 37 new confirmed positives in Marinette County, 25 in Vilas County, 23 in Forest County, four in Iron County and one in Florence County.

The DHS data site Monday had Marinette County with 4,865 confirmed cases, 774 probable cases and 69 deaths, eight probable deaths; Vilas County, 2,597 confirmed, 164 probable and 46 deaths, three probable; Forest County, 1,262 confirmed, 96 probable and 27 deaths, four probable; Iron County, 667 confirmed, 138 probable and 21 deaths, 21 probable; and Florence County, 481 confirmed, 76 probable and 13 deaths.

Wisconsin data Monday showed 5,983 more positives since Friday for a total of 718,810 confirmed COVID-19 cases to date. The state recorded 18 more virus-related deaths Monday to reach 7,930.
