Counterculture running brand Satisfy just dropped a new color way in its shoe collaboration with Salomon. The latest Satisfy X Salomon Sonic RA Max sports a silver upper designed to evoke an object familiar to many distance runners: the mylar blanket.
It’s not an unlikely reference for the Paris-based premium brand—previous Satisfy collections included a mylar fanny pack, a reversible mylar jacket, and even an actual mylar space blanket for post-marathoning in style. The shoe otherwise unites Satisfy’s characteristic stripped-down monochrome look with the Sonic RA Max’s ultra-cushioned ride.
The RA Max is a stability shoe with a breathable mesh upper, welded monochrome overlays, and two layers of foam padding designed for high mileage and shock absorption. The one-piece outsole is divided by deep trenches between the heel, midfoot and forefoot sections to dampen impact and smooth heel-to-toe transitions.
Last year, we reviewed the base shoe and said fits “like a warm hug,” thanks to soft memory foam padding throughout the collar and tongue. We also liked the cushion—this shoe has more midsole foam than any other Salomon shoe to date. At just under 9 ounces, it’s also fairly lightweight.
Satisfy’s contribution includes that shiny color way and orange text on the heel tab, tongue, forefoot, and interior of the shoe. All that premium branding comes at a price—this shoe will set you back $216, as compared to the base shoe’s sale cost of $91—but if you demand your performance running shoes also look fresh on Instagram or at Paris Fashion Week, these are it.
