SHIRLEY — A 25-year-old man died after falling off a roof of a home on Saturday morning, authorities say.
Shirley Fire Capt. Al Deshler said paramedics arrived at the home on 22 Holden Road at about 8:30 a.m. and found the man lying next the garage unresponsive, but still breathing.
The 25-year-old was transported by ambulance to an area hospital, where he was expected to be flown by LifeFlight to UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester.
Deshler said the man went into cardiac arrest in the ambulance and was unable to be revived.
Deshler added no one saw the man fall from the home’s 25-foot gable roof and the cause of the fall is unclear.
According to Shirley Police Chief Sam Santiago, the man was a contract worker for a roofing company.
“It’s a tragic accident,” Santiago said by phone hours after the incident. “It’s unfortunate the gentleman died.”
The Shirley Police Department and Middlesex District Attorney’s Office is investigating the incident, along with the state police and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration.
The identity of the 25-year-old will not be released by the District Attorney’s Office, as the incident is not suspicious and no foul play is suspected to have occurred, according to Meghan Kelly, a spokesperson for the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office.
The Shirley Fire Department and medics from Ayer responded to the scene.
