Michigan woman, 75, dead after crash with truck in Upper Peninsula

NEWBERRY, MI – A Michigan woman is dead after a crash with a truck in the Upper Peninsula.

Troopers from the Michigan State Police Sault Ste. Marie Post are investigating the incident, which occurred in Luce County at approximately 1:30 p.m. on Sept. 23.

Police say Nancy Whalen, 75, of Newberry, pulled out into the intersection of M-28 and County Road 403 in front of a Charter Spectrum truck travelling westbound on M-28, causing the crash.

Whalen was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the truck was treated and released for minor injuries, police said.

The crash remains under investigation, but alcohol, drugs, and speed are not suspected factors in the crash.

Troopers were assisted by Luce County Sheriff’s Department, Luce County Fire/EMS, and the Michigan Department of Transportation.
