The Jefferson County Memorial Project - based in Birmingham - remembers the Black men and women killed in racially motivated violence by white mobs during the Jim Crow era of segregation in Alabama.
Earlier this year, a plaque was installed along the railroad tracks in the town of Irondale - recalling the killing of a Black man there in 1896, as he tried to make a purchase at a grocery store.
Margaret Norman is a former researcher fellow with the Project.
She and Alex Melonas are members of the Irondale Memorial Coalition.
Joi Brown is the Project's executive director.
