Square Enix has now trademarked "Collection of Mana" in Japan, after recently filing a series of trademarks for Final Fantasy and Secret of Mana in the United States, Canada and Europe earlier this month. According to Gematsu, the odd thing about this is how it sounds like a title for a potential western release of the Seiken Densetsu Collection, but the trademark originates from Square Enix's Japanese branch.
This collection was released on the Switch in Japan last year and includes Seiken Densetsu: Final Fantasy Gaiden (Final Fantasy Adventure / Mystic Quest), the sequel Seiken Densetsu 2 (Secret of Mana) and the third game Seiken Densetsu 3, which has never been localised.
What do you make of this? Tell us down below.

I'd be happy with a port of Adventure of Mana, but this is good too.
Take this sort of thing with far more than a mere grain of salt. Much more likely is that they are just protecting the trademark.
Though The Mana games have peaked my interest, I would like to finally play them.
Secret of Mana port from PS4 version ?
Oh please let this be true
Since they'll never translate Seiken Densetsu 3, I hereby declare they should just give us Secret of Evermore in its place. Would buy.
Mana coming as long as Physical they got my vote.
@Thesharkfromjaws SD 3 is so good though. But yeah Evermore never gets any love
@SwitchForce It can be Digital: I don’t care.
The re-trademark may also indicate that they may plan to bring the Secret of Mana Collection to other platforms as well such as the Xbox One, PS4, and PC in addition to the Switch in the west so we may eventually see it but not as a Switch exclusive compilation as previously known.
This is both a good and bad news, good news to those who want to finally play the older Mana games but don't want to buy a Switch and good news to Switch owners who hadn't import this collection yet but want to play an official English release of the old Mana games.
The bad news is that it's no longer a Switch exclusive therefore there's no point in buying a Switch for this compilation anymore rendering the collection not so special after all. Of course I'm just speculating, this may just be Square Enix renewing their property and nothing else.
Got the Seiken Densetsu Collection long ago and have been playing it so probably wouldn't double dip... but this would be amazing!
I just beat Secret of Mana recently on my SNES, I have the fully translated rom for SD3 so I will pass on this. Had it been last year I would have jumped on it.
Likely just going to be the two 3D remakes.
Don't play with my heart like this, Squeenix.
I'd be up for this collection particularly for the third game having previously beaten the other 2, also throw Secret of Evermore in too
Let it be so, please!
@retro_player_22 thats not bad news especially if it gets western release.
Whould love to play my favorite series ever again!!
@retro_player_22 who would by a switch for just this release?
@faint I would if it means having an official version of Seiken Densetsu 3 finally.
@illmatic20xx It would be bad news if Square Enix choose to release it digitally only. Hopefully the compilation is a physical release.
I don’t have any squaresoft at all on my Switch but this I would buy
I'm quite satisfied with how well Nintendo and Square Enix are working together for the Switch. Octopath Traveller and Dragon Quest Builders were two of my favourite 2018 games. Lots of retro Final Fantasy games coming to the system, modern Dragon Quest games, and third party exclusives. SE...you're gonna get lots of my hard earned cash. Thank you for making awesome games!
Hoping for 2D-HD remakes of all Seiken Densetsu titles!
I still would love the remake the PC / PS4 / PS VITA got for Switch ;___;
Gimme Children of Mana tho D:
@Thesharkfromjaws sadly a waste of time in this case. Tired of the secret of Mana remakes honestly.
I hope for the classic versions of the games, no 3D ports.
As much as I would like to see something come of this, I have a huge feeling this will turn out to be nothing.
I have no more expectations about the Mana series and just assume it will suck, prove me wrong.
@retro_player_22 The Switch version would still be the only portable one
@Lemmy_the_Koopa The ring menu is so broken in that version
Really hope this turns out to be true, and I hope we get the 3rd game and not Evermore in it's place. Sadly, I fully expect them to do just that.
@Anti-Matter God I hope not. I tried so hard to like that game and found myself just wanting to play the original over and over again.
@Anti-Matter Let's hope not unless they fix the stuff that really needing fixed. I think most would rather have the original over that specific port.
@Heavyarms55 That would be incorrect. Trademarking "Collection of Mana" doesn't protect any trademarks except for a game named "Collection of Mana". That game doesn't exist yet, so the only reason to trademark it would be to protect a game they may or may not release in the future. It won't protect any of the titles actually in the collection. That is why they were trademarking individual titles earlier. No grain of salt needed. They are planning on a new collection. It may never come out.. though most likely it will. But it is a fact they are working on a new collection, otherwise they wouldn't pay for a trademark to protect a non existent game.
I've been asking for Seiken Densetsu Collection to be localised and released in the West ever since it was released in Japan. I'm really really hopeful Square Enix will release this collection on Nintendo Switch in North America very soon!!
