Chargesheet to be filed against school vice-principal today
PUNE: Five months after Father Egidius Francis Falcao, vice-principal of a city-based school was arrested for allegedly molesting and attempting to rape a 14-year-old class X student on January 2, the Yerawada police will file a chargesheet against him in the court of special judge Vinay G Joshi on Tuesday.
Falcao was arrested on January 21 and later released on bail.
Police have invoked the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012 against Falcao. He has been charged with allegedly committing an offence under section 7 (sexual assault) of the Act, that was enacted in November 2012. The punishment under this section is over three years and may extend up to five years and include a fine as decided by the court.
Falcao has also been charged with committing an offence under sections 342 (wrongful confinement), 354 (molestation), 376 (rape) read with 511 (attempt) of the Indian Penal Code.
Police during the investigations have recorded the confessional statement of the victim's mother under section 164 of the Criminal Procedure Code. The procedure to record the statement was completed by a magisterial court on Monday.
