Farmington upsets Centennial in New Mexico state softball tournament
LAS CRUCES - The Farmington High School softball team upset Centennial in the first round of the Class 5A New Mexico state softball tournament.
The No. 12 Scorpions beat No. 5 Centennial 7-0 on Saturday at the Field of Dreams Softball Complex.
Centennial finished the season 18-6.
Farmington advanced to play No. 13 Hobbs in the double elimination tournament in Albuquerque next weekend after Hobbs upset District 3-5A champion Oñate on Thursday.
Farmington pitcher Makayla Donald threw a no-hitter against the Hawks with 16 strikeouts.
Las Cruces falls at Cibola
The No. 11 Las Cruces High softball team fell 4-2 at No. 6 Cibola on Saturday in the first round of the Class 5A New Mexico state softball tournament.
The defending champion Bulldawgs finished the season 14-11 while Cibola advances to next weekend's double elimination tournament in Albuquerque.

Mayfield baseball eliminated in first round
The Mayfield baseball team lost a pair of one-run games to finish 12-17 on the season.
The No. 14 Trojans lost 4-3 at No. 3 Cleveland on Friday night and lost 6-5 on Saturday at Cleveland High in Rio Rancho.
Oñate baseball falls at La Cueva
The Oñate baseball team lost two games on Saturday at La Cueva.
The No. 6 Bears beat No. 11 Oñate 4-1 in the first game and 14-5 in the second game to advance to the Class 5A quarterfinals.
Alamogordo sweeps district track meet
Both Alamogordo track teams won the district meet on Saturday at the Field of Dreams.
The Almogordo girls won with 178.5 points with Mayfield finishing second with 71 points and Oñate finishing third with 69 points. Centennial was fourth, Las Cruces was fifth, Deming was sixth and Gadsden was seventh.
The Alamogordo boys won the meet with 146 points, followed by Oñate with 84 points and Centennial with 60 points. Las Cruces was fourth with 60 points, Las Cruces was fifth with 53.5 points, followed by Mayfield, Deming and Gadsden.
Mayfield girls tennis lose in Class 5A quarterfinals
The Mayfield girls reached the Class 5A quarterfinals of the team tournament, but lost 5-1 in singles play to top-seeded Sandia.
Laura Malinge won Mayfield's match against Sandia.
The Trojans advanced after beating Eldorado 5-3 in the first round.
