Bulgari’s newest olfactory launch, the Bulgari Allegra collection, has reinvented the way that one can create a personalised fragrance

Having a signature bespoke scent is an extension of one’s style and personality—luxury perfumers have long concocted custom scents for clients, while olfactory lovers often layer their favourite fragrances in varying combinations or number of spritzes depending on the occasion.

In recent years, a number of brands incorporated the concept of layering scents in their collections and the latest player to rethink fragrance layering is Bulgari, with its Bulgari Allegra collection.

The Bulgari Allegra range takes you on an olfactory version of a choose your own adventure storybook, where the different options that you pick or decline shape your final destination—your own personal scent.

As LVMH’s master perfumer Jacques Cavallier says, “All roads lead to Rome, all magnificent raw materials lead to Rome, all perfumes lead to Rome.” One begins the journey with an introduction to each of the five eau de parfum in the core collection, each a tribute to Rome.

The core Bulgari Allegra collection

There’s the turquoise Riva Solare, described as a sparkling “boat ride on the Mediterranean Sea”; the floral Dolce Estasi, which embodies the creaminess of a dessert with the zest of Italian citrus; the fruity, sensual Fiori D’Amore; the tangerine Rock’n’Rome; and lastly, the Fantasia Veneta, which is a “festive chypre to embody the jubilation of the most incredible Italian festa”.

Each perfume can be enjoyed on its own, but the Bulgari Allegra range challenges you to personalise it with one of the five Magnifying Essences, which can be layered over your base scent. Every Magnifying Essence is designed to perfectly blend with any of the five core eaux de parfum created by Cavallier, who dreamt up this sophisticated scent mixing system.

The Magnifying Essence collection

Each layering essence contains rich, powerful concentrations of a precious fragrance ingredient: musk, bergamot, rose, vanilla and patchouli. Each stands beautifully on its own, yet when layered over the chosen eau de parfum, is given a completely different dimension and thus, your own bespoke perfume. If you can’t pick just one essence, choose two or more for that flexibility to customise your scent the way you would want to.
