Washington Reports 645 Coronavirus Cases, 33 Deaths After Error

SEATTLE, WA — State health officials reported 33 deaths and 645 new coronavirus cases in Washington on Tuesday, accounting for all deaths recorded since Friday and new cases reported since Sunday. The state published and quickly retracted an update Monday, citing inaccuracies found in the data.

Per the latest information, 83,193 patients have tested positive in the state since the crisis began, and at least 2,070 people have died from complications linked to COVID-19. According to the state, approximately 277 patients with confirmed or suspected illnesses are currently hospitalized.

At least 2,710 new illnesses have been confirmed in Washington over the last seven days, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's case tracker. The number of new cases reported statewide has shown steady improvement in recent weeks.
Many of Washington's counties still show a rate of cases by population higher than the target threshold of 25 cases per 100,000 residents over 14 days.

However, King, Pierce, Snohomish, Skagit, Kitsap and Lewis counties are now among those in the moderate range, reporting between 50 and 75 cases per 100,000. Roughly half of the state's counties remain in the highest transmission bracket.

As of Friday, health labs had processed at least 1,740,899 tests in Washington since the public health crisis began. Updated information on negative test results was unavailable Tuesday.

US death toll tops 200,000 and continues to climb

The national death toll from the coronavirus surpassed 200,000 people on Tuesday, far exceeding other countries, with approximately 770 deaths linked to COVID-19 reported across the United States each day.

As the Associated Press reports, the U.S. has led the world in confirmed infections for months, nearing 7 million cases by Tuesday. America accounts for less than 5 percent of the world's population but has recorded 20 percent of its coronavirus deaths.
