Thirty-eight new coronavirus deaths and 1,436 new cases were reported by state health officials on Friday, the fourth straight day of more than 30 deaths from COVID-19 in the Bay State.

The 38 new deaths bring the state total to 192, the state Department of Public Health announced.

The new deaths reported Friday ranged in age from 50-100 years old across several different counties.

The DPH reported 1,436 new cases of the highly contagious disease since Thursday, bringing the total confirmed cases in Massachusetts to 10,402.

Hot spots in the state are in Middlesex County, with the most confirmed cases, 2,202, followed by Suffolk County with 2,183 cases.

At least 382 residents of long-term care facilities have tested positive, according to the DPH. Eighty-two long-term care facilities have reported at least one case.

At least 966 people in Massachusetts have been hospitalized for the coronavirus, and 3,063 people have not been hospitalized. The remaining cases — 6,373 — are under investigation.

The total number of tests in Massachusetts went up to 62,962 on Friday, an increase of 6,354 from the day before.

More than 258,000 cases of the coronavirus have been confirmed in the United States, according to a Johns Hopkins University tracker.

At least 5,500 Americans have died from the virus and more than 9,400 have recovered.

New York remains the nation’s top hot with more than 2,500 coronavirus deaths and 102,000 cases.

Worldwide, cases top one million with nearly 57,000 deaths.
