The following items were taken from area police department reports and releases. An arrest does not constitute a finding of guilt.

Fraud

A resident of the first block of Malden Avenue reported Oct. 16 someone opened a Comcast account in their name without their permission.

Property damage

A 16-year-old from Burbank and a 16-year-old Palos Heights were cited on Oct. 16 and Oct. 17 respectively for damage to village property. The two are accused of putting a substance in the fountain on the first block of South La Grange Road that made bubbles at 8:12 p.m. Oct. 15. Images from a security camera helped police identify them as suspects.

A resident of the first block of Waiola Avenue reported at 11:10 a.m. Oct. 17 they smelled something burning and saw a small plastic garbage can burning on the concrete.

A resident of the 1000 block of South Stone Avenue on Oct. 19 and a resident of the 500 block of South Spring Avenue on Oct. 20 reported someone filed a fraudulent unemployment claim in their name.

A resident of the 100 block of Washington Avenue reported Oct. 21 there was an unauthorized charge on their account. When they called a number they thought was for Apple support, they may have given their social security number to them.

Theft

Edwin Velez, 30, of the 8100 block of Ogden Avenue, Lyons, was charged Oct. 18 with possession of a stolen vehicle and fleeing the police after he fled a traffic stop at about 6:20 p.m. Oct. 11. Velez was driving a Silver Mercedes CLK320 that had just been reported stolen from outside the O’Reilly Auto Parts store in Countryside. He crashed the Mercedes in Brookfield and fled on foot. Police stopped him, but he was taken to the hospital and not charged until he was released. Velez also was charged with driving with a suspended license, disobeying a stop sign, speeding, reckless driving and other traffic violations.

Employees at the T-Mobile store, at 115 N. La Grange Road, reported at 4:08 p.m. Oct. 18 a man stole two iPhone 11 Pro Max phones and left in a dark-colored Kia.

A wind chime was reported taken from a container on a porch on the 200 block of Sawyer Avenue around 6:45 p.m. Oct. 18.

Trespass

A resident of the 800 block of South Waiola Avenue said they saw two males searching the interior of their neighbor’s car at about 3:20 a.m. Oct. 22. When the resident called to them, they got in a red car and drove away.
