Victim in Jones County motorcycle crash identified as Illinois man

Authorities have identified the 51-year-old man who died from injuries sustained in an Aug. 23 motorcycle crash west of Okaton.

Ronald Pilon, from Joliet, Illinois, died on Sept. 7 at a Rapid City hospital, according to a news release.

Pilon was riding his 2002 Harley Davidson motorcycle eastbound on South Dakota Highway 248 when he hit a deer in the roadway around 8:02 p.m., according to the release. He was thrown from the motorcycle and was not wearing a helmet.

Pilon was transported to the Philip hospital by ambulance and then airlifted to a Rapid City hospital, the release states.

South Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
