Bahrain’s Najma Club yesterday defeated UAE’s Bani Yas Club 74-57 in the basketball competition of the Arab Women Sports Tournament 2016 (AWST) in Sharjah.
It was Najma’s first victory after losing their opening match against Algeria’s Olympic team 64-59.
In other games, Sharjah Ladies Club (SLC) beat Algerian Olympic team 80-54 while Jordan’s Orthodox team scored a narrow 55-47 win over Qatar’s Ladies team.
In the table tennis semi-finals, Bahrain Club lost to Jordan’s Orthodox 0-3 while Lebanon’s Al Nadawa Al Qatamiya Club scored a 3-0 victory over Algerian Women’s Sports Club.
In the final, Jordan’s Orthodox defeated Al Nadawa Al Qatamiya of Lebanon 3-2.
In volleyball, the UAE’s Al Wasl Club beat Jordanian Olympic Club 3-0 and Al Qalamoon Lebanese Club defeated SLC team 3-0.
Egyptian Redha Adel won the javelin gold while Emirati Hanan Ibrahim claimed silver and Omani Maha bint Thani bronze.
In heptathlon event, Omani Moudhi bint Abdullah won the gold, Algerian’s Katia Meqran silver and Egypt’s Asma Mohammed Ali bronze.
In the 4x400m relay, Algeria won gold, Bahrain silver and the UAE bronze.
In hammer throw, Algerian’s Zoweina Bu Zowiera won gold, the UAE’s Wedad Irbahim silver and her compatriot Hanon Ibrahim bronze.
In the 5,000m race, Bahraini Punto Edaw won gold, Yemeni Nahla Ahmed Ali silver and her teammate Malayeen Ali bronze.
In the 200m race, Algerian Suhair Bu Ali claimed gold, Bahrain’s Bushra Sharifa silver and Algerian Nadia Ramoon bronze.
In the 800m race, Bahrain’s Marta Herbano won gold, Algerian Nariman Omara silver and Emirati Ruqaya Mohammed medal.
In triple jump, Algerian Katia Awqasi bagged gold and her compatriot Khadija Graitli silver.
The third Arab Women Sports Tournament 2016 is being held under the patronage of Her Highness Shaikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, wife of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah.
