Taking a Glimpse at No. 10 Texas Tech

The No. 11 West Virginia Mountaineers play host to the tenth-ranked Texas Tech Red Raiders on Monday night.

Texas Tech has not played in nearly a week and a half due to COVID-19 issues within TCU and Iowa State programs. Prior to the postponements, the Red Raiders ripped off three-straight wins that included back-to-back road wins at Iowa State and fourth-ranked Texas but fell to No. 2 Baylor at home, 68-60 in their last outing.

The Red Raiders have climbed into the top 10 behind their defense, allowing just 59.5 points per game, ranking 10th in the country in scoring defense, but inside of conference play, Texas Tech ranks fourth, allowing 69.6 ppg.

Texas Tech starts four guards led by Georgetown transfer Mac McClung (Jr. 6’2”, 185-lbs) is averaging a team-leading 16.3 ppg, including averaging 20.2 points in the last five games, shooting 51.5% (35-68) from the field and 40.0% (12-30) from behind the arc during that span.

Terrence Shannon Jr scored 15.0 ppg before posting two points in the loss to Baylor. Kevin McCullar returned after missing the first nine games of the season because of a high-ankle sprain but is averaging 11.2 points and a team-leading 7.2 rebounds per game in his first six games, and Kyler Edwards rounds off the starting four-guard look scoring 10.1 ppg and leads the team in assists at 2.7 per game.

Forward Marcus Santos-Silva is the Red Raiders big underneath, averaging 8.9 points per game on 60.7% shooting from the field and grabbing a 6.3 rpg.

West Virginia is 14-6 all-time versus Texas Tech and is 7-1 against the Red Raiders inside the WVU Coliseum.
