They say everything’s bigger in Texas.

At least 300 Texas teenagers were exposed to coronavirus at a party in a northwest Austin suburb on June 20, local health officials said.

Multiple high school students who partied at “Pong Fest” in Lakeway, Texas, were awaiting COVID-19 test results, according to a statement from the Austin health department. After the party, some party-goers learned they’d tested positive.

Lakeway mayor Sandy Cox refused to snitch on the teens and divulge the location of “Pong Fest” in a June 25 Facebook video. She did, however, encourage everyone associated with the party in any way to get tested for coronavirus.

“The city is trying to get a handle on who attended, and the numbers are so big, contact tracing everyone is not possible,” Cox said.

Cox said anyone who attended the party should isolate for 14 days, though her request didn’t come until five days after the party.

After Gov. Greg Abbott largely reopened the state, coroanvirus cases in Texas have spiked in recent weeks. From Sunday through Tuesday, the state reported 18,000 new COVID-19 cases.

After delaying for a few days, Abbott paused the state’s reopening plan last Thursday.
