Three’s company: South Dakota woman gives birth to triplets after thinking they were kidney stones

A South Dakota woman’s pain tripled into joy.

Dannette Glitz of Sturgis, S.D., thought she was suffering horrific kidney stones on Aug. 10 but it turned out she was eight months pregnant — with triplets.

“You don’t ever see triplets being conceived naturally, let along going 34 weeks without knowing,” Glitz told TV station KOTA. “So everyone’s like, ‘I can’t believe it.’ I’m like, we’re still in shock. Trust me, we know what you mean. Like I go to the doctor’s thinking I’ll have surgery for kidney stones and end up going into labor with a C-section that night. It’s crazy.”

She and her husband, Austin Glitz, who have been together for 12 years, already had two children, including 10-year-old son, Ronnie.

“One time I seen a shooting star and I wished for a baby brother, and I wished for like two sisters for my little sister because she always wanted a little sister,” said Ronnie. “I knew this day was always going to come.”

The new mom recalls feeling shock when doctors told her that she was carrying three babies.

“It was quiet. We thought they were done,” said Dannette after delivering the first two. “He’s over there, kind of like rocking like, thinking of the names and then she’s like, well, we need another blanket and his reaction is like, ‘Excuse me, put it back. No, I was told I had twins, I’m not doing triplets.’ She’s like, ‘No, there’s three babies here. There’s triplets.'”

The two girls, Gypsy and Nikki, and the boy named Blaze, were all delivered within four minutes of each other and each weighed 4 pounds.
