Rhode Island DMV Shifts All Road Tests To Providence Branch

Effective immediately, road tests will not be offered in Cranston.

PROVIDENCE, RI — All Rhode Island driver's tests will be at the Providence Department of Motor Vehicles Branch, effective immediately.

Anyone who had a test scheduled for the Cranston office will be notified of the new Melrose Street location, the department said. Dates and times will be the same.

The department did not say what prompted the change.

Since road tests resumed last June, modified closed course tests have only been offered at Providence and Cranston. The Middletown, Wakefield and Woonsocket sites have not offered road tests since before the coronavirus pandemic began.
