UPDATE ( 3/13):

Due to the incredible generosity of the community, the donation goals have been met, according to the Humane Society of Pulaski County website.

ORIGINAL (3/12):

The Humane Society of Pulaski County is asking the community for 60 Kuranda dog beds for the shelter animals. The humane society tells KATV the beds are more sturdy and comfortable for the dogs who are waiting to be adopted.

"We know that sometimes they get bored in their kennels, so having things that will hold up are great," Julie Austin said.

Some 200 animals stay at the Humane Society any given time. Staff are looking to keep their beds clean and up off the ground.

"Our goal is to get one in every single one of our runs and in our medical wing," Austin added.

But most importantly, Austin says, staff want the dogs to be comfortable.

"We find that the more comfortable the dogs are, the more secure they are, so that makes them more adoptable because they're not as scared or intimidated while they're staying with us."

The Humane Society of Pulaski County, which has been taking in animals and adopting them out for the last 73 years, is just as dependent on the kindness of donors' hearts as it is integral to the community.

"You never know when you start putting the stuff out what kind of response we'll get, but we should know now that people really step up, so we're excited to see those starting to come in," Austin said of donors.

So far, six beds have been donated. If you would like to donate a Keranda bed, visit this website.
